Beautiful place for a day's stay. Nice landscape. Homely food. Could have a few more amenities. Rates are a bit higher. Some people might feel it to be okay but considering the fact that all sight seeing locations are a bit far away, rates are on the higher side.
It was my first ever home stay and the experience was awesome. As the couple who run this are very friendly, always helpful. The service, food, ambiance, location was overwhelming. Looking forward to go back again ASAP. Very good place for a peaceful dwelling with kids and elders
We needed a room for a night on the way to Thirthalli for wedding. Mr. Krupal accommodated us. Treated us very well. My kids were very happy and enjoyed the stay. Food was awesome. The deserts was loved by my son. Very tasty tea and coffee offered whenever asked for. Would want to stay again for longer duration. Thanks to the hosts heartily.
My friend and I had a night stopover at this place on our way from Kollur. We came back very very impressed. Fantastic couple (Mr and Mrs Krupala), they treated us like their own family. Food was top notch and rooms was spic and span. View of the sunset and the river tunga from the first floor is something that soothed our driving stress. WE were so happy with the place that my mother, her sisters and uncle along with my friends family stayed there. They all came back impressed. Needless to say we never felt we were in a homestay so I am happy to call Gabadi as a home away from away. I will visit Gabadi again shortly and many time over in the years to come by.
Top Reviews of Gabadi River Edge
We were looking for a family getaway, wanted to be in a place which is in midst of nature, spl for our daughters. Our search led us to one of the best nature destination we have been to in recent times, Gabadi River Edge. This property is on the banks of River Tunga, it is a village house aka mansion. Soaked in heritage, the architecture, rooms, interior decorations, carefully selected nic-nacks from around the world, all these have a very calming effect and at the same time all the well appointed modern facilities ensure your vacation is truly relaxed. If you are looking for great scenic beauty, relaxed experience, awesome food, this is the place you should come to. This property is owned and run by Mr. And Mrs. Krupal Gowda, both are very warm personalities, ensures your stay is memorable. One must relish and feast on Mrs. Gowda's culinary specialties, right through breakfast, meals and in between short eats, the list goes on and on. Early mornings are a great experience, if you are lucky, along with your morning coffee you will see the Peacocks on the Tunga banks, there are a variety of birds all around and so many more things to see. You don't realize how time passes by, after we visited for the first time, we have been to the place thrice more. And we have not got bored. In fact we are planning to visit again in the upcoming summer holidays. A great place to be, tranquil and calm, you can experience life slowing down in front of your eyes, and through the lazy holidays to be compared by the hosts - What more, What else to ask for? We had a great time, and you must visit to experience it.
We picked this place for the short weekend 24-26 Jan 2015. We did the right thing. The place is a beauty. The house is calm, spacious and overlooks Tunga. You have to be up at 6:30 in the morning to experience serenity. A variety of birds flyby in the morning and twilight, with the river serving as the perfect background. It has got beautiful lawns and a wonderful central courtyard. The terrace overlooking Tunga is another gem. A living room that can easily accommodate 20 people fitted with Tata Sky HD. We watched a movie as a family one of the evenings having tea and snacks. The hosts - Shri. Krupal and Smt. Shoba - were a wonderful couple taking good care of us. The food - Malnad cuisine - was something you need to experience. Each meal was served by Shri. Krupal himself and they were served with love. A wonderful, home made dessert accompanied each meal including breakfast. Food rating - 5/5. We were served dinner the second night amidst a wonderful bonfire in the central courtyard. Chilly night - Moonlight - warm bonfire - chatting with family & fellow travellers - sumptuous dinner - yummy dessert..... Need I say more? Pets: They have a cow, a Labrador (Rocky) and two cats. Our children loved their time with the pets and didn't have the heart to leave them on their return. Aren't there any flaws? Yes. The creaking cots take the first slot. The cots are comfortable but very creaky. While the comforters on the bed were very clean and nice, the extra ones available inside the room (drawers) were stinking. There's not much to do in the Home-stay. Any place worth a visit is a good 30/45 min drive away. So if you are looking for a relaxing holiday with little/no sightseeing, then this place will fit well. Otherwise, you will get bored easily. The mug in the attached bathroom had no handle. Might look small, but then its easy to fix this as well and to give the impression that everything is taken care. (Note: Airtel signal is not available inside 95% of the house). Overall, I will highly recommend this place. Suggestion: go as a group and you will sure relish the memories forever. Thank you, Shri. Krupal and Smt. Shoba. Stayed January 2015, travelled with family
The Homestay : This place brings real meaning to the word Homestay. Beautiful ambience, Peaceful atmosphere, Good and well maintained rooms and bathrooms, Nice interiors, River by the side, surrounded by plantations and green fields, lots and lots of birds around, Well maintained garden, a camp fire in the night, a refreshing hot water bath from traditional firewood heater (hanDe snana in kannada) and above all Tasty, Healthy and Nutritious fresh home-made FOOD what else do you need for a good holiday. Location of Homestay : It is right on the Highway between Shimoga and Thirthahalli, hence, easily accessible and also near to many tourist spots. The river flowing beside the homestay is the biggest attraction. For a birder like me, it was heaven. I could spot numerous variety of birds, to name a few, Verditer Flycatcher, Indian Golden Oriole, Oriental Magpie Robin, Rufous Treepie, sunbirds, cormorants, herons, peacocks, kingfishers, egrets, kites. The Hosts : Mr.Krupal is a very hospitable person who makes you feel at home by caring us, giving tips for our trips and totally made our stay comfortable. Mrs.Shobha Krupal is a fantastic cook. I wonder how she herself cooks and caters to so many people of different parties staying there at a time. Booking, checking in and out is not at all business-like. It was all in an informal way and that was really good. Our Stay : We were a group of 9 from 3 families who went there during Deepavali (2nd, 3rd & 4th December 2013) stayed for 2 days and 2 nights. We visited Mahishi (Mutt & River point), Kavaledurga Fort (Hill), Bheemanakatte (Mutt and River point), Kundadri Hill and Kuppalli. Waiting to visit once more to spend time leisurely, in and around the homestay only. The FOOD: The best part of the Homestay. To name a few delicacies, idlis, vadas, jamoons, holiges, akkirottis, payasas, for our breakfasts, Veg. layer biriyani, otthu shavige, kayi haalu, neeru dosas, rice, rasam, sambar, chapathis, curries, etc… for luches and dinners. Yummy Milk, curds, ghee and buttermilk are from their own cattle. Coffee or tea with bajjis and bondas in the evening was enjoyable. One suggestion to the owners : Mattresses need to be more comfortable.
Myself and my wife went to tour and stayed in Gabadi River Edge for two days about two months ago. For a home stay in typical rural setting, the facility is excellent. It is an ideal place to chill out and rejuvenate. The rooms, food as well as the landscaping is very good. One can go for long walks, visit few holy places around, may be try out fishing or just enjoy the hospitality of the host. We really enjoyed every moment of our stay there. For travelers I would advise not to expect five star facilities like swimming pool/golf/tennis etc. Carry your broadband data card with you if you want to remain connected. Nearest town Shimoga is about 45 minutes driving time and well connected from here by local transport. Overall an excellent place.
At Gabadi river edge you can feel the most homely holiday experience. Yet, no stone is turned unnecessarily, and the natural balance of man and the environment is preserved and protected. On the shores of the undulating Tunga river, one can never forget his or her stay. last but the least, the taste of homely food served hot and clean really is a point to note.
