Gangtok food, sight-seeing and shopping options
Shopping is comparatively expensive here and things are not authentic. Most items are Chinese made with life of 4-6 months. Lots of food options and the best veg food and breakfast is available in Rasoi and Parivar restaurants. As mentioned in overview, there are many sight seeing places. One important note for people travelling to Nathula and Baba Mandir.. Since these places are at very high altitude(14200 fts), you may face breathing problems. Hence a simple solution is to keep 'kapur'(one which is used for a flame) with and keep smelling it whenever you have breathing problems. By the way M.G. Road in the heart of Gangtok is probably the best market place i have seen in India.

Hotel Review of Cherry Guest House
Comments: Great place. Staff is courteous and keen to serve. Sudha and the owners were very helpful. The guest house offers home style service. Has sprawling stepped gardens. A section of the veranda even has view of the Kanchenjunga. Is close to the MG road.
Best Experience: The staff would get worried about my whereabouts and even had to have 'talk' with me about my erratic vagabound ways like coming unusually late at night (Gangtok does not have much of night life as the sun sets early) without giving any prior information at the desk. They would want to know if I have eaten supper etc. All in all a very home kinda treatment without being restrictive.
Worst Experience: However, the fixtures such as lighting could work more consistently. The shade of the wall paint in some rooms is gloomy and dark, which could me made more cheerful. But other rooms are fine and cheerful. Sheer curtains in some rooms can be replaced with heavier curtains for more privacy, particularly at night.
