Gangtok food, sight-seeing and shopping options
Food is not an issue in Gangtok. In MG Marg there a lot of good eateries where one can have veg, non-veg, South and North Indian food. Don't expect an authentic dish like the ones you have back at home and you won't be disappointed. Food while travelling to Nathu La Pass is a major issue. The place where most of the taxis stop (nearby Tchangu Lake) doesn't have good options for eating. The Chinese recipes dished out were pretty tasteless and we had to be satisfied with Maggi. If possible, carry some food along so that you don't end up complaining later. In Gangtok, the major mode of commuting is city-taxis (there are no public transports like buses). They cover all the major places and are shared. Usually the fare is Rs 10 per person. You just have to stand on the road and wait for one. Or else for more convenience, book one through the hotel you are staying in. Usually it will cost you Rs 70 to 100 depending on the distance. All city-taxis go to MG Marg (this is where you will need to go often for planning your travel, eating or shopping). MG Marg is also a shopping destination where you can get all your necessary stuff.

Hotel Review of Golden Heights, Hotel
Comments: Golden Heights located in the heart of Gangtok is one of the best hotels to stay in of that class. Food and ambience of the hotel and room is very good. But what can dissapoint you about the unawareness and miscommitment of their staff. During my visit to Gangtok, we checked in for 2 nights, but the very next day I was told to vacate the hotel as it was already booked by a group earlier from next day onwards. If this was the case then why we were given room earlier. This gesture made us felt humiliated and left us with bitter experience otherwise which would have been a very wonderful vacation in Sikkim
Best Experience: Just rooms and restraunt were good.

I personally feel that the hotel should cater to individual requirements and provide the travellers with travel support as the locations are scattered....

Hotel Review of Golden Heights, Hotel
Our trip to Sikkim was preceded by a trip to Darjeeling. The drive dwon from Darjeeling to Gangtok was amazing, as it followed the curves of the river Teesta, which was a lovely tuorqoisy-green colour. I never saw that colour before! The water looked deceptively still and shallow, but I believe it runs quite fast (there are white-water rapids, after all) and deep. While Darjeeling was memorable for our first glimpses of the Kanchanjunga, it was a relief to enter Gangtok-civilisation!...
