Gangtok food, sight-seeing and shopping options
Food is not an issue in Gangtok. In MG Marg there a lot of good eateries where one can have veg, non-veg, South and North Indian food. Don't expect an authentic dish like the ones you have back at home and you won't be disappointed. Food while travelling to Nathu La Pass is a major issue. The place where most of the taxis stop (nearby Tchangu Lake) doesn't have good options for eating. The Chinese recipes dished out were pretty tasteless and we had to be satisfied with Maggi. If possible, carry some food along so that you don't end up complaining later. In Gangtok, the major mode of commuting is city-taxis (there are no public transports like buses). They cover all the major places and are shared. Usually the fare is Rs 10 per person. You just have to stand on the road and wait for one. Or else for more convenience, book one through the hotel you are staying in. Usually it will cost you Rs 70 to 100 depending on the distance. All city-taxis go to MG Marg (this is where you will need to go often for planning your travel, eating or shopping). MG Marg is also a shopping destination where you can get all your necessary stuff.

Hotel Review of Norkhill, Hotel
Comments: Sikkim is still relatively unspoilt & for people who love the hill stations of the north I think this is a must visit place. It is still visited by a few ,street are not overcrowded,is relatively clean & of course there a lot of excursions out of gangtok.Overall pretty relaxing--only remember it takes 4 hours by taxi from Bagdogra airport. The hotel is the original guest house of the previous King Of Sikkim & has a lot of history going for it.The Whole hotel is spendid in its architecture & get up & gives a feeling of something really different.
Best Experience: The rooms are well appointed & fairly spacious to sqeeze in at least three persons if you have a child accompanying you.The food is pretty good & the chef is willing to make suggested dishes. It is a sort of a homely environment & we visited when it was navratras so we were fully vegtarian.Since we wanted to eat continental veg food we made the request & suprisingly the chep turned up six to seven continental veg dishes at lunch & dinner both.It was fantastic & we never expected such variety & such quality of stuff. We liked their early morning bedtea service in the room with the works--teacosy & what have you.The bar was small but cosy for a nice warm drink. The front lawn had awsome views & one could spend the whole day just sitting there just doing nothing but looking at the mountains.
Worst Experience: None really except we had booked for a Innova from Bagdogra but they sent a Tata Sumo vehicle. On our complaint the vehicle was changed instantly.Besides that we had a great time & I do recommend this hotel to visitors to Sikkim.
