Gangtok food, sight-seeing and shopping options
Food is not an issue in Gangtok. In MG Marg there a lot of good eateries where one can have veg, non-veg, South and North Indian food. Don't expect an authentic dish like the ones you have back at home and you won't be disappointed.
Food while travelling to Nathu La Pass is a major issue. The place where most of the taxis stop (nearby Tchangu Lake) doesn't have good options for eating. The Chinese recipes dished out were pretty tasteless and we had to be satisfied with Maggi. If possible, carry some food along so that you don't end up complaining later.
In Gangtok, the major mode of commuting is city-taxis (there are no public transports like buses). They cover all the major places and are shared. Usually the fare is Rs 10 per person. You just have to stand on the road and wait for one. Or else for more convenience, book one through the hotel you are staying in. Usually it will cost you Rs 70 to 100 depending on the distance. All city-taxis go to MG Marg (this is where you will need to go often for planning your travel, eating or shopping). MG Marg is also a shopping destination where you can get all your necessary stuff.

Hotel Review of Tashi Delek
Comments: Overall this resort is too expensive and no value for money. The Deluxe and Suite rooms are situated in the lower levels, some of them look to the left side of the hotel with a view of the garden on the hill slope and other buildings. The ones on the right side.. has a view of a walkaway inches away from the window, full of people walking by.. stay away from them ! Only the terrace suites have a good view of the mountains in front including the Kancehnjunga, but they are prohibitively expensive. Would recommend other options in MG road in gangtok, which will deliver much more value for money
Best Experience: Room and bathroom were in spick and span condition, with fixtures and plumbing etc of good quality. Heater was also effective. The hotel has a lot of tibetan designs and murals etc adorning the walls in the common areas as well as inside the room.. I found myself taking photos of these Tibetan murals !
Worst Experience: Food is of poor quality. The tea tasted like flavoured water, paneer tikka was burnt, vegetable dishes also were unappetising. Entrance to the hotel is through a aereal walkaway bridge which looks like it may collapse anytime. No proper view of the mountains, let alone kancehnjunga. We wanted a double bed but they gave us twin beds instead. Hot water supply was erratic.

Very pleasant experience. Great location providing grand views of the Kanchanzongha from the hotel, even though situated in the shopping district. Great value for money....
