The Hotel was good. People visiting there, please stay in hotel only and enjoy the place. Don't go for Sight Seeing. The hotel was located in between woods and it is a good place to relax. Please refrain for going out of the hotel after sunset as it is forest area and local people are very hostile.
Wonderful place close to your root and soul to visit, away from the chaos of the city life and its daily pollution. This is a place specially for those who want to lie down on the grass and look at the clear sky at night and gaze the glittering stars and spot few comets like a fairy tale during our childhood days. We rarely see in our city sky line during night these days!
The resort is the property of WBFDC. Spending a night in such an ambiance is a great experience. I stayed here during monsoon. The forest is having varieties of medicinal trees. Cottages are available. Booking can be done through WBFDC website. Ruins of Panchokote Rajbari and Panchet Dam are nearby tourist spots.
I visited the place in the last week of October when noon temperatures in Kolkata could easily make you sweat even under a shade. The weather here was warm and dry and even cool during the night. Although quite a few resorts have come up in the place, the one maintained by the WBFDC is by far, the most economic choice. They provide AC rooms with the necessary furniture starting from a little over 1. 5 k per night. It's located at a convenient distance from the Panchet Dam, amidst the dense growth of 'saal' and 'kendu' trees. The staff, majority hailing from nearby villages, is cordial and well mannered, Apart from the obvious choice of sightseeings which include the ruins of "the garh", Panchet Dam, Snake Park, Baranti Lake and Jai Chandi Hills nearby, one can visit the Baghmundi and Ayodhya Hills which are about a 3-4 hours drive from the place. At Baghmundi, one might visit the artisans who make the extensively decorated masks for the traditional "chhau dance" of Purulia and even buy them for a very reasonable price. However the prices are subject to rigorous negotiations!! One can also visit the Kashipur Rajbari enroute. The palace is well maintained and boasts of the outstanding craftsmanship of the bygone days! If one still has time, one can go for a short 1-1. 5 km hike from the resort itself and have an aerial view of the entire place, images attached herewith. The DVC reservoir at Maithon is also easily accessible and one can enjoy boating on it. On the whole it's a good weekend experience. The food at the resort, was however not so good on the taste buds! Approximate expenditure for transportation for upto 3 people (including a day for Ayodhya and all other sightseeings mentioned above): 6500 bucks!
If you want to go to a holiday with a budget cost and want a serene place near the hills, do take a visit to "Garpanchkot ". The old debris will be found there and magnificent hill side resort offered by WB Tourism Dept. Hotel rooms are nice and food quality though is not so good but come on those are expected in remote places like these. Do visit Jayachandi, Bagmundi Hills and of-course Ayoddha Hills the land of trekkers.
The resort is nice, located on the lap of a green hill. The rooms in the resort are arranged in different apartments. All the apartments are arranged in such a manner that each and every apartments are not visible from one place. It seems that the resort is vacant but the occupants of the rooms are visible in the dining hall at the time of breakfast, lunch, dinner etc. Each apartments are two storied and consists of double bedded four rooms. The atmosphere is calm and quite. Birds are chirping throughout the day and different type of trees are there. Sal, piyal, mahua, haritaki, mango etc, are worth mentioning. There are good concrete roads. The place is cool due to good number of big trees that prevent to enter the scorching sunlight in the area. The place is very safe and well protected even in the night because of good lighting arrangement.
We booked this resort from Denzong Leisure, a travel company from Kolkata. Actually it was a package tour. As soon as we reached the resort, fresh welcome drink was served. Lunch was pretty good and delicious. Mineral was served in every room. We requested the home service to have our dinner at our own room and they did it accordingly. Nice staff.
If you want to spend a calm and quite weekend for 2-3 days outside the city life with your friends then go for Garpanchakot. This off bit location will give you the flavor of the forest. Garpanchakot Resort is the best option to stay there. We went there in the month of December. We stayed at cottage type room and the room service was satisfactory. The restaurant service and quality of food was appreciable. Tea and evening snacks are available at room; the room (A/C) was spacious and easily manageable for three persons and even room heater is available. The bathroom was clean with amenities and hot water was available (Geyser). You can spend a quality time with your friends at evening with coffee/ drinks/snacks. The temperature during period was around 5 degree at morning and 10 degree at night. The night were so thrilling, a deep silence with a chilling weather was always haunting to us at night. Entire experience was so nice. Local people are very simple, honest and sensitive.
We checked-in on a Saturday noon after driving through the narrow but beautiful roads around Garpanchkot. The hotel has a good location. Has some beautiful view on the area of the hotel as hills can be seen around it. Room quality for non A/C rooms were poor, not so clean bedsheets, dirty towels, damped walls will surely make you feel uncomfortable. Oh not to mention about the lizards, they were everywhere. We had Seven rooms booked and only got one A/C. A/C room can be said fine. They had their canteen over there, food is limited but good in taste. Service was poor. Advice for others: Carry your own drinks if you can. Try to climb the hills for awesome view, ask them for guide. Try to see the temples around there by driving through the village roads. Dont ask local people for route or direction. Always go in a group because after dark there was nothing to do. But if you love to relax and just relax then this place is ideal for you.
It is a forest department property. I stayed for three days in this hotel. Food facility was available. Food was delicious. Veg and non-veg all varieties they served. Hotel is value for money. Service was excellent Rooms were neat and clean and spacious. All basic facilities were available like TV, geyser, etc. Location was very nice. Cottage type rooms were available. Appearance was well maintained. I had booked my room in advance before 3to4 months from WBTDC office. Booking and front office was cooperative and helpful. Garpanchkot place is fabulous for visit. Climate was very nice. I booked three rooms in this hotel. Nature view was very beautiful in this place. This hotel is recommendable for travelers. Indoor and outdoor activities were not available.
