Another lovely 5 star experience, although it wasn't as great as our stay in lemon tree. No doubt the hotel has all the amenities of a star but somehow lacks the glitter of a 5 star. The swimming pool was great however. The bar beside the pool was of particular interest to me.
A very big and tall hotel. We had our client meet at this 5 star property. The hotel was beautiful, true but lacks the charm and grandeur of a 5 star property. The conference hall was well equipped with all modern faculities. They had arranged a lunch buffet for us. The food was great indeed.
I have been staying in Bangalore since 13 years and one of the icons of Bangalore city for me always has been The Gateway Hotel on Residency Road near MG road. I used to always admire the quaint little hotel with amazing restaurants and would wonder how many years it has served Bangalore and it's patrons. I was pleasantly surprised to know recently that it's been in Bangalore for 25 years now! I stayed there with family and was also invited for a sit-down Chef's Special dinner. Our evening started at the lounge bar at The Gateway hotel which is called Sphyre. We were served some amazing starters along with delectable cocktails. My favorite was the Northern Gate Kakori Kebab which was rich, succulent lamb mince which is named after a hamlet near Lucknow. This would just melt in mouth as we were having it !. Another favorite was crunchy fried prawn nest. It had the right amount of bite and kick to it which is required for starters to go along with great drinks. One more interesting starter was the maddur vade which was served which had a unique Bangalore touch to it. This was deep fried flat patties made of rice flour, semolina, maida, sliced onion, curry leaves, grated coconut and asafoetida and named after a sleepy town between Bangalore and Mysore. We were treated to some tantalizing Merry Me Cocktails which were made especially for the 25 years celebration. I especially liked the version of Long Island Iced Tea which was made at Sphyre at The Gateway Hotel, Residency Road. Not many bartenders can make this drink perfectly but I was glad that these guys got it right !. We interacted with Naren Thimmaiah who is the Executive Chef of The Gateway Hotel Residency Road Bangalore and his energetic and passionate team. He said that for a property that has grown with the city of Bangalore, it has been integral for them to serve dishes which are traditional yet innovative, and they are proud that the hotel has become a landmark for regional cuisine with restaurants like Karavalli. He said his team and he are delighted to showcase a special menu which is a perfect union of the past and the present. After starters and cocktails at Sphyre, we moved to all day dining restaurant GAD (Gateway All Day) where we had a perfect dinner which featured dishes from the good old days of The Peacock Garden and Northern Gate (old restaurants at The Gateway hotel) such as Peacock Garden Lasooni Bhuna Palak with Kulcha and Northern Gate Kakori Kebab and the more contemporary fare available at GAD today like The Original Steak with Potato Mash. My favorite in Non-Vegetarian main course was Active fillet of fish which was herb crusted oven baked fish with sauteed greens, roasted baby potato and grain mustard sauce. I would say this was perfectly cooked fish with the right amount of seasoning and yummy taste. We also tried Peacock Garden butter chicken with butter naan which was Chicken tikkas cooked in gravy of tomatoes and flavoured with fenugreek and garam masala and finished with cream and enne badanekai which was Brinkley cooked in peanut and roasted coconut masala. The highlight of the evening were when we were served an assortment of desserts like potluck dark chocolate mousse, stir caramel custard, saffron rasmalai (cottage dumpling soaked in saffron syrup and chilled to perfection), jamun tart with rabri (Gulab jamun served with a difference) and pannacotta (Served sugar free with fresh fruits). What a perfect ending to the silver jubilee celebrations!
Visited the hotel for holiday in Bangalore for 7 days and 8 nights. Felt super comfortable at the hotel for the full tenure. This hotel know the area of satisfying the customer at the highest level. Has amenities of all 5 star hotel, like gym, swimming pool, spa, party area, ala chart and buffet dining hall. But there nothing great about telling the amenities which are present in most of the hotel, I liked this hotel because of treatment by the staff. I felt like king staff were really humble, very much responsible and took care of each and every small requirements of customer with great responsibility and attention. Bed was more than expected double spring mattress. Provided basic amenities like LCD TV, shoe rack almirah, telephone, study table, centre table, relaxing chair, room service used to clean room thoroughly and nice smelling by the time you come back to hotel from the sight seeing. Room service daily replenished the bathroom accessories like razor, soap, shampoo, bathtub bubble soap, shaving cream etc. The hotel is situated in the heart of the city so all the amenities like restaurants, malls, disco, pub, shopping places near by. We were provided free breakfast and dinner by the hotel. The food was lavish with a large no of varieties in buffet. I could not even taste all the foods in seven days so you can imaging the varieties in the buffet. Everything apart but you really feel satisfied when the staff treats you gently attends you immediately, give respect to your spouse and sometimes do things out of the box. When you are with your spouse, this improves your image in front of your wife for choosing such hotel. Being Taj group of hotel and situated in the heart of city look wise you may feel slightly cropped up but hardly matters if you're highly comfortable with room and services. I would definitely prefer an advice to stay in this hotel if budget permits. Pool side you have changing room and provided with shampoo, soap etc. I had room just above the pool on 2nd floor. It was great sight, very calm, peaceful, soothing to eyes, body and mind.
I visited The Gateway Hotel on Residency road in Bangalore in the month of January 2015 on a Business visit. Stayed here for 3 days/2 nights. The rooms were clean and the hotel staff was polite. Loved the sea food especially tiger prawns malabar style they were the juiciest prawns I have had till date. The ambience of the hotel is quite good along with beautiful Swimming pool which helps in relaxing after a long day at work/conference. Thank you the Gateway Hotel & Staff, Would be visiting you again soon.
Good destination, good location of the hotel with near by goodies, good appearance with decent look, good front office staff no problem while check in and check out, good servicing from staff members, good food but not variety of food, nice decent rooms with basic facilities, I couldn't take part in activities due to official visit.
