Gateway of India is a national heritage building in India that is located at the waterfront in Apollo Bunder area in South Mumbai, facing Arabian Sea. It was built as a tribute for Queen Mary and King George V, who were on an official visit to Mumbai in 1911. Opened for public on 4 December 1924 by the Viceroy, the Earl of Reading, Gateway of India is considered to be the most famous monument in Mumbai.

The gateway is built from reinforced concrete and yellow basalt andepitomises the combination of Hindu and Muslim styles of architecture. The central dome in the gateway has a diameter of 15 m and the arch way is 26 m high. From this gateway, people can take a ferry boat to Elephanta Caves, or luxury boats that take visitors around the harbour. To the front of the gateway is a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji.

Travellers can reach the Gateway of India by hiring taxis, autos, or by boarding buses from elsewhere in the city; be it city centre, downtown or the suburbs.

As it's a historical monument, Built by British with good Architectural designs, worth to visit once. You can also visit to anjanta caves near Gateway and also enjoy a boat ride to & fro the caves, There's a nominal ticket for going to caves. You can go there by sharing autos or city buses from CSTM station.

A view from the Royal Taj

A trip down Indias colonial history .., an awesome view from this great hotel...the hotel itself is vintage wine in modern platter. The ambience, reception and everything about the hotel is so personal and warm and the highlight is the evening tea served at the restaurant overlooking the Gate way of India. The monument erected to receive the British regent unfolds the history of the imperial rule.A must see on ones MUMBAI itinerary.

Clean, beautiful, attractive buildings

It's a decent place to visit with our family. As it is located near the lake, the environment is calm and cool. Also taj mahal hotel can be visited the same time. All food are very costly, so carry from home.

Gateway of India is a beautiful and attractive.

The most famous monument in Mumbai, the Gateway of India was built in 1924 to commemorate the state visit of King George V. The gateway is a striking blend of Hindu, Mughal and European Gothic...

This place is an iconic landmark in Mumbai. Just oppyto this is the very famous Taj Mahala Palace hotel. I recommend going to both as both are iconic places and offer great experience. Evening is the best time to visit with lots of crowd.
