I have been to Ooty probably a million times coz I grew up in Coimbatore (80 kms from Ooty). I have stayed almost in all the big hotels Ooty boasts of, this time I wanted a change, a place where I can relax without the bustle of the town and a place, which can give me a cherishable memory and that’s exactly what I found in this English Villa. For somebody who studied in an Anglo-Indian school and have a taste for English Architecture, this hotel served me a delight. I stayed in their master bedroom, which was huge, has two windows, one opens to the lawn and the valley behind the lawn and the other opens to the other side of the valley. Even the bathroom window opens to the valley. The entire hotel is done with the wooden flooring which gives somebody a typical hill station feel, The room had a fire place, A sofa, two cupboards, A huge king size bed (which you don’t see much these days in a hotel room), A divan close to the lawn-valley view window. The whole room décor screamed of English presence. Morning and evening coffee by the lawn is an experience you can count on for a good feel. Dinner in their dining hall transpires you to a royal feel. The staffs are sweet and warm, a pretty lean number but efficient ones (Shah in particular). Food is good with their own specialties. This Villa in short is a small (probably a miniscule) gift by the English in return for all that they swindled from us. All those who don’t have a loose purse string to get an English feel can try this. Definite value for money, if one has a taste for heritage stuff.
Our stay in Glyngarth Villa was actually a surprise for my wife. I had just booked the villa seeing the review and image at the same time had a feeling that somewhere I had seen this villa. When we reached the villa we were warmly welcomed, we stayed in main villa room itself but it was a really great view with wooden cottage at one side, open spaces and the gate view. A great place to wander around, have calm and idle time with your loved one. Even there were swans who used to run away when we went near, but we did get a chance to take few photographs with swans just silently going near it, without hurting or touching it. Also it was a great scenic beauty. The services were really very good and the food we got was very good and tasty. We had an opportunity to have candle light dinner with just two of us. Now regarding the surprise it was actually a cottage used in Malayalam movie "Summer in Bethlehem" which made me and my wife very happy and overjoyed to stay there because both of us was thinking for something special like this.
The hotel is beautiful... reminiscent of the british times... Its like time has stopped. However some other buildings on the property that could be really quaint have been just left to rot. These can be restored and used as well. The food is like home food... simple but delicious... there is no room service... but service is excellent otherwise... the manager is always keen for your well being.
Glyngarth it's a wonderful resort. The cottages were the main attraction. The manager Mr Karthik, he is just an awesome guy. I stayed there more than three times. The food was so good. The breakfast was buffet, but they had taken the guest opinion also. The sad thing is that now they had sold out resort and now it's a private property. My stay over there was mind blowing.
Glyngarth, Ooty was an excellent place to spend your vacation with friends and family. The villa is a symbol of royalty. The rooms were well maintained and the staffs were well behaved and co-operative. The cuisine was good. They have a pretty large garden where we had our barbeque party and which was the most exciting part of our trip. It was a pleasant experience for my family and definitely I will plan for another visit in a short time.
