Gnanam is centrally placed between Brihadeeswara temple and the Palace and also close to the bus stand, all at a walking distance. Its proximity to the bazaar makes it a little noisy. Rooms are clean and good, AC works fine. Bathrooms though have a slightly run down look. The hot water is really only lukewarm as they have no geysers only solar, which does not work on cloudy days, but of course, this is very few days in a year. Though the rooms are priced reasonably, the food is surprisingly expensive for the range of hotel, and taste is very average. The blankets are actual woollen rugs, not fleece, stitched with covering sheets which make them inordinately heavy. No tea/coffee maker.They have limited parking so if you are driving down, keep that in mind when you take your car out. We lost over an hour after checking out, as they did not know who had parked behind us. At Rs.1850 + taxes, for a deluxe AC room, room rent only, its reasonably priced. Don\'t look for elegance, just functionality and you will find its Value for Money. Though do check you bill when you check out, we were billed for an ashtray which was never in our room but they insisted it was and would not let go. It was a mere Rs.50 but left a bad taste to the stay. They have a minibar but no checklist and I heard someone else complaining that they had been billed for something they had not consumed. Be careful and the stay will be fine.
