Gopalpur-on-Sea, also referred to as Gopalpur, is a beach town situated near Taptapani. This fishing town derives its name from the ancient Gopal Temple that dates back to the 18th century.
Ruins of an ancient commercial port have been found at this historical site. One of the major attractions of this place is the lighthouse that has served as a milestone for sea travellers. This lighthouse was used for directing ships towards the Gopalpur Port.
