Gopalpur-on-Sea

Gopalpur-on-Sea, also referred to as Gopalpur, is a beach town situated near Taptapani. This fishing town derives its name from the ancient Gopal Temple that dates back to the 18th century.

Ruins of an ancient commercial port have been found at this historical site. One of the major attractions of this place is the lighthouse that has served as a milestone for sea travellers. This lighthouse was used for directing ships towards the Gopalpur Port.     

The Old Jetty is another attraction, which was once the major point for trade and commerce. This place is considered as the starting point for many sailors moving across the Indian Sea.

Dhavaleshwar, one of the picnic spots located in Gopalpur, is an island popular for its lush green flora. It has an ancient temple situated at a hilltop. A museum that displays various monuments belonging to the 12th century is located close to this temple.
