"Tribal experience won't disappoint"

6.1/7
Posted 20 Jun

We were looking at a short break from the city and found one, on the various websites Gorukana has been mentioned. Gorukana is a place run and managed by Soliga Tribes and its heartening to see how a certain vision by one Dr Sudarshan, has made this place a paradise of nature. About the amenities, there is almost everything here, the cottages, are clean and have all facilities. Though the bedsheets had faint stains of blood in our room, I still would go with it, for the whole experience of the forest. The staff is very courteous, they are all children of the tribals who now are educated in good schools so its very satisfying to see them lead a honorable life and in the bonfire time, you get to see their children who are so talented perform with all their heart for us guests. It's indeed going to be one of the most heartening time of your stay. - The bonfire. With folklore and traditions explained by a very friendly person they entertain you thoroughly and enrich you with stories. As far as advice, do not expect the world, its a forest actually, its not a boutique resort with manicured pool and lawn. It is raw and close to nature, the scenery will take your breath away. The food is very home like and made extremely hygienically, and tastes really good. Unlike many resorts here, the food is so satisfying that you will not overeat or feel the fullness, its extremely home like. However there is something I would like to tell people who are scared of lizards. I know many are. Be prepared, there are many, a little too many for comfort in the room and bathrooms. I was happy I didn't opt for the tree house, as that would have been filled, given that there were so many in the cottages itself. Anywhere you see, on the roof, there are quite many, also in the bathrooms. But it is part of forest life, so get over it, as soon as you can. The best part is still there- the star light, night sky. It's a wonder, to watch the tall trees with stars shining at night, I can never forget that scene, when I accidentally got up at night and kept staring at the sky, lit with stars. It is really a beautiful place to be, do visit. (This is for the management of the place- the nature walk that is mentioned and included in our stay is a little bit of a disappointment). I was just Reading an old blog where the writer has mentioned how the soligas, will take you through a lovely 2 hour nature trek. However none of that happened, when we were there. A guy took us walking by road, and had a binoculars, but there was nothing to sight as we were mainly on the road. He got us back quite quickly. He also got us pepper, for which we waited for our 50 rupee change, which we never got back, though he promised he would come back with the money. Maybe he assumed its for him. Though we did not mind, I thought he could have at least gestured to give it back. So I was quite surprised to read this blog, which states - "However, I must add that long forest trek with Soligas more than makes up for the limited 2 hour morning and 2 hour evening safari ride by gypsy". Nor was our safari 2 hours long, nor was there any forest trek with soligas. They just took us to a manicured hut complex and walked us through it and came back.

"The mystical mountains"

4.8/7
Posted 10 Feb

Picturesque, serene, calm getaway. Life away from the monotony and mess of city life. You should know to appreciate what is there. The place is good, the tribal dancers are excellent in what they do, the food is homely. You need not take more than a couple of days there but. A walk with nature, a drive through the hills, a dance with the tribals and hit the roads back- don't expect a Munnar here - you will be disappointed. There are tribal stuffs on sale, spend some money there as that's what keep them going as well. Natural fruits, dried Amla, honey etc.

"Worth every penny "

5.6/7
Posted 12 Aug, 2015

First things first, the rates are expensive but I have to admit that it is every penny worth it. The place is great with lots of greenery around. The cottages are awesome and you feel one among the nature in this beautifully set up resort. Food is great but they do not serve alcohol. The safari is great but very difficult to spot tigers. Dont lose heart if you do not sight any wildlife there are other things which will keep you hooked.

"Weeend break with nature"

5.8/7
Posted 30 Jul, 2015

This place is around 4.30 hours from Bangalore with breakfast and couple of nature breaks. You can either take the Mysore road or Kankapura road. I suggest the Kanakapura road which mostly deserted after kanakapura. En-route you can visit the two falls Gagana Chukki and Bara Chukki. On the negative side the property is not deep in the woods like some jungle lodges property but only 300 meters from the main road. It is on a plantation so there is a lot of greenery. Accommodation is in tent, tree house( bathroom outside) or cottages. We chose cottages. It can easily accommodate four adults as it has a loft that can sleep two. Property is quite peaceful but can get boring beyond a day as there is nothing to do. Property itself is not very big but well-maintained. Service was excellent. It being a weekday when we visited we were only two families on the property and got royal treatment. Food was good and served hot. All in all a good place to unwind just wish the property was deeper in the woods.

"Neat cottage with satisfactory amenities"

5.1/7
Posted 30 Dec, 2014

We had planned for a two day journey off from Bangalore and heard about this place - Gorukana. Its almost 180km drive from Bangalore and we reached there by 12 in the noon - the check-in time. The place was awesome, peaceful and quiet which is what we needed away from the noise and pollution here in the city. There was a Ayurveda center where a complimentary foot massage was given which was blissful. There are other services they offer as well but not included in the package. The cottage was very neat and nice with brilliant interiors and satisfactory amenities, and a netted swing for every cottage. The food was also very good and clean. There aren't much activities included there other than the Safari which also costs extra. I would suggest people who visit this place to carry some board games to have more fun. Since we were a group of friends, we clicked lots of pics as the place was midst peaceful nature and trees. Also we took an early morning walk which was relaxing. The very famous Biligiri Ranganna Temple was a 4km drive from the resort and that also has an amazing view point. It was a nice place for a quick weekend.

"Awesome hotel with isolated cottages & tent houses"

6.1/7
Posted 24 Dec, 2014

Gorukana Resort is just inside the Jungle (Forest). They have awesome isolated cottages over there plus tree house and tent houses too. Cottage's are really good. Food is also appreciable. I got a chance to stay in Tent house which is just awesome and just made of tent clothes. In the night we had bonfire with the local tribal people and enjoyed dancing with them at the hotel. The most awesome thing is the peace, which you can actually sense. At night you can actually hear the voice of the forest animals and in the morning fresh voice of birds. Also, there is shop inside where you can buy herbal products.

"The hotel outlook on arrival is good and one feels..."

5.4/7
Posted 17 Dec, 2010

The hotel outlook on arrival is good and one feels that one has come to a nice location. welcome drink is served to guests. all the managers of different departments surround you and say hi! you feel elated. the management staff is 20 to 30 years aged. Most of them are trained on soft skills and hence are good in using these attributes than practically ensuring what they try to impress. catering section is not up to expectations. there is no senior manager who can handle and interact with guests. the staff is inadequately experienced and trained to give a feeling of comfortable stay at the end. Charges are exorbitant vis-a-vis comforts in all aspects as a overhaul assessment. The hotel is about two months old and i happened to be 6th guest there.

"The rooms are spacious and privacy is at it's best"

5.9/7
Posted 28 Aug, 2013

Gorukana is tucked away from the hustle bustle of the town and in the dense B R Hills forest range, just .5 kms away rom the popular B R Temple, once a terittory frequented by the brigand verappan. The resort is admist lush greenary and densely grown trees. The rooms are placed atleast 20 - 30 ft each other on the slope of a small hill overlooking a small man made lake. The rooms are spacious and privacy is at it\'s best. The rooms are set in a perfect environment to enjoy nature and it;s gifts. Be it a chirping of a bird or a small breeze blowing across from the lush green forests of B R Hills. The property has a decent indoor play area, a scenic cafeteria, a spa and a small open air theatre for tribal cultural activities. The B R Hills tiger reserve is 18kms from the resort. Over all if you are a nature lover and want to enjoy the peace and tranquility of nature, nothing better than Gorukana. The owner of this resort Dr Sudarshan has done extensive efforts to help and rehabilitate the Soligas tribe, you get to visit some of their rehabilitation centres, hospitals, schools , etc. A wonderful experience not to be missed. The food is not so upto the mark given the expensive rates, except for the food, rest all was upto the mark and it makes u feel a perfect holiday

"Beautiful location of the resort, new and spacious..."

4.4/7
Posted 8 Mar, 2011

Beautiful location of the resort, new and spacious well-designed cottages, very good especially if you need place in the room for children to run around in. We had gone as a group of 2 families and had a very nice time. They also arrange some programmes in the evening by local villagers, and that was very pleasant. The only downside is the food which is pretty average, especially the dinner was quite disappointing.
