Gorur is located around 22 km from Hassan and the place has a dam that is built across Hemavathy River. This bridge forms a reservoir which is named Hemavathi Reservoir and makes a great place for picnic. The place also has the temples of Paravasudeva and Yoganarasimha.

"Great place without crowd"

You can visit this dam and surroundings. It is not crowded and mostly breezy. But avoid summer season. Carry food as there is no canteen or hotel inside the dam area.

The experience is like we are in dream land, at least once in your life visit here. This will be better during Rainy season. There is a Temple situated on river bank, families might be interested to visit the temple. It's good to visit while you are going from Madikeri to Hassan or staying in Hassan.

"Best place to visit during Rainy Season"

  • 7.0/7

One of the Best Dam in Hassan District is Gorur Dam. It is soo beautiful when the dam is full. It is nearer to busstand. After visiting the Dam I prefer to visit the temple located near the Dam it is located nearly less than 1 kms to Dam.

"Very bad road to reach"

  • 4.5/7
  • Posted Nov 11, 2014
Gorur dam is located at a distance of about 25 Kms from Hassan. Since we were driving from Bangalore we went directly to the dam. The road from Hassan to Gorur is really bad. When we visited there was no water flowing since the water level in Hemavathi river across which the dam is constructed was very low. On the way back just across the dam is Gorur Narasimha Swami temple on the banks of river Hemavathi. This is a small temple which is very old but lot devotees visit this place. The scenery around the temple on the river bank is a photographers dream.

"Good backwaters"

We were not allowed from main gate due to security reasons; hence, we went into a different route to see backwaters. It was beautiful and awesome. You should go only when the water is to brim.

  • 7.0/7

Gorur Dam is one of the big dam. It's a very beautiful dam only when in rainy season and when the water is let out. Rest of the season it's just dry. waste of time visiting here. It's too crowded in rainy season.

"The way to the dam is beautiful"

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted Sep 29, 2013
The dam is 1 kilometer from the road. But walking that distance is very pleasant because the water is flowing in front of you. As you go nearer, the splash is felt. On the way I bought gauvas. I also saw a big black crab crossing the road in front on me.
