Live Like a Royal

Posted 6 Oct, 2016

If there is one place in India, where royalty and palaces are still an "IN" thing, it ought to be Mysuru A. K. A Mysore which is known for its famous Mysuru Amba Vilas Palace for its majestic structure and the famous Dussehra festival which is celebrated here in grandeur style is a sight to watch out for. The Closer you stay to a place, the lesser you visit, that's exactly the case with me with regards to Mysuru. Staying in Bangalore for 25 years now, have just visited Mysore twice and it's been already 11 years since my last visit. So when I was invited by Grand Mercure Hotel, was thrilled to visit Mysuru and explore the place and also have a king size experience at Grand Mercure Mysuru. We planned for a weekend visit to Grand Mercure Mysuru with Fellow Bloggers for a nice long drive to Mysuru which is approx 150 km from Bangalore and based on traffic in Bangalore, would take anywhere between 3-4 hrs. The Roadtrip started from Press Club at 8 am to the final destination. The journey was quite comfortable and enjoyable as it was fun interacting with other bloggers during the journey and we made our first pit stop at Kamat Lokaruchi which is located at Channapatna which is 55 km from Bangalore located on NH 275. For a local food experience, Do try their Khotto or Kottige which are steamed idli in jackfruit leaves and the famous maddur vada and Mysuru masala dosa as well. If they have the jowar roti meal, Don't miss that too. After a hearty Meal, We continued our journey and reached the Hotel at Noon. As you enter Mysuru from the Highway, just follow the directions on the road and you won't miss the hotel which is Situated to the north of the Mysore Palace on the famous Sayaji Rao Road that is known to host the famous Dashera Puja. My First Impressions of the hotel from the outside itself gave it a majestic look that goes well with the location that is meant for royals. We were Greeted in Style with traditional Mysuru Welcome with garland and tilak at the lobby of the Hotel. We were offered welcome drink which was refreshing after a long journey. The Lobby had contemporary looks blended with history and artifacts that go well with the tradition and culture of Karnataka and Mysuru in particular. Every wall of the hotel had paintings and decor related to the culture of the place that syncs well with the history and every wall has a story to talk that is rich in culture and heritage of Mysuru. Even the colors used in the hotel are coordinated to give it a vibrant look. The Hotel has 146 contemporary rooms. The hotel is also close to all major attractions that the city is famous for and is so refreshing to see a city without much traffic and chaos. The Hotel Manager was kind enough to take us for the hotel tour. The rooms are spread out over 5 floors of the hotel. Each room features a comprehensive set of in-room amenities for your convenience. Connecting room options are available upon request and availability. The premier rooms and suites have private balconies with a set of coffee table and chairs. Express check-in is available for all guests of these rooms along with other special privileges. The Hotel is family friendly and has a touch of contemporary and heritage blended well. The rooms were spacious and very vibrant in decor. There are 97 Deluxe Room with 1 double bed and 32 Deluxe Room with 2 single beds and 3 Executive Room with 1 king size bed and 5 Junior Suite with 1 double bed and Sofa and 5 Junior Suite with 1 double bed, with Balcony and 4 Deluxe Suite with 1 double bed, with Balcony. The main reason of the visit was for the special meal for Ramadan. The Ramadan spread was prepared at the main restaurant of Grand Mercure Mysuru "La Uppu" which means salt in Kannada which is the first ingredient that is served during a meal. That's how the name La Uppu was christened. La Uppu is the hotel's coffee shop and the multi-cuisine restaurant, which serves buffet breakfast, lunch, and dinner and a la carte. The cuisines served are from around the world and also the delicacies of our City of Palaces. The Spread was so vast and truly amazing even though being a vegetarian, I didn't expect so many options on the table for Ramadan that surprised me pleasantly.

Grand as it name Stands

I went to mysuru for my business meeting, I am a loyal customer to Accor Hotels, that too in the segment of Mercure. I Booked this hotel online and just went through the details. I never doubt the appearance and service of Accor group. Arrival: Upon arrival, I was greeted by crosier of the hotel, usually they are not seen at the arrival. But being a loyal Accor customer, they made sure I have the perfect welcome. He then guided me to the Check-in desk. Check-In: Check in was swift and it tools less than 5 mins. They handed me the keys and guided me to my room. The lobby of the hotel is good. The ambience is great with a small bakery on the right corner. Rooms: Rooms were huge and were up to my expectations. Accor never fails to impress me with there huge and cosy rooms. The carpet was clean and my bed was arranged perfectly with very well pressed and spotless linen. The room temperature was set perfect coordinating it with the outside temperature. The furniture was very well maintained. Just they forgot to change the old In Room service menu which was old and torn. Pool: They have a rooftop pool, a pool is big huge with the dept of 4. 5 feet. Being a rooftop pool, the water was chilling as it was 7 in the morning when I went for a swim. It was raining too. Resturant: I just had my morning breakfast. The food was good but the service was slow. Many people complained it to the manager. Overall: Overall experience was good, and I was very much satisfied with the courtesy of the staff.

Luxury with personal touch

Posted 26 Sep, 2016

I stayed in this hotel to attend a conference. The front office Namritha was ready with all the information. The lift needs the key to go up and also to come down from top floor pool and gym. I was alone in the room. But the room attendant Sarat saw to that I don't feel it. First evening he left 'Maddur vada' with a leaf written good night and sweet dreams on the bed. Next evening he left a puppy (towel art) and nicely decorated chocolates. Imagine an engineer at 11 pm to switch the TV off ( I did not know how to use the universal remote) The breakfast spread was so vast that I was full by seeing them itself. Personally they inquire about live dosa omelette. Paratas and coffee. I forgot to write about the bathroom - it had soap dishes. Granite sills to keep things. So thoughtful. It had a glass window to see the room TV - thank god it can be opened from inside the Bath. A cute clock with light and alarm was used by me in this Mobile days.

Great hospitality, Great location, Small rooms

Posted 14 Aug, 2017

We were in Mysore for 3 days out of which one day we stayed at Radisson Blue and 2 days we spent at Grand Mercure. So it is very natural for me to make the comparison. Grand Mercure as compared to the Radisson blu had much smaller rooms. There were no Bathtubs in the rooms of the same grade as compared to other hotel. So initially I was a little disappointed (it is definitely a great hotel but am talking in terms of luxury that was offered). But the hospitality of Grand Mercure was out of the world. They made sure every request of the customer was fulfilled with a smile even if they had to go out of the way. This made me change my opinion that it was indeed a great place to stay as with a 4 years old you may end up making certain request which generally any hotel may turn down. It is also very conveniently located as it is just 5-10 mins away from the palace and the zoo. Overall, it was a great stay with great hospitality.

Wonderful and luxurious stay

Posted 14 Sep, 2017

Grand Mercure Mysore is Located centrally, the decor is really well done - combining local art with contemporary designs. The rooms are not too spacious in the regular category, Rooms are elegant. Suit for both business and family stay. The reception and help desk are very helpful and prompt. Food quality is good and multi choice. There's a restaurant on the terrace by the pool which is rather nice. Definitely a step up place in Mysore.
