Just awesome! May fall short of words to describe. One of the natural wonders one must visit. Vast white salt desert spreading across approx. 5500 square meters .. Is open for viewing only from Nov to Feb Post which water fills up the area. One would wonder the natural phenomenon of this desert. One can stay either in the Govt. Managed resorts or many of the private resorts close by. Food, etc is offered as part of package. Many of the resorts also organize cultural activities of the authentic Gujarat shows that would give one insights a out the rich culture, dance and music. A view of the white desert during sunrise and sunset is just picturesque.

The great rann of Kutch is one of the largest salt pans in India. The rann is one of the beautiful places in Kutch. During winter rannotsav takes place. In rannotsav cultural events are performed. Visiting during sunrise or sunset, nice views can be seen. Visiting the rann in the night of full moon is very enthralling.

If you like Road trips this is one of the place's that you should visit in Gujarat, India. From my place in Bandra, Mumbai to Great Rann of Kutch it's exactly 956 kilometres. Gujarat highways are built with great care. One of the best infrastructure and a driver's paradise. Butter smooth highways all the way to Rann of Kutch. I visited there during the last week of December, 2015. Only 80 kilometres of undulating highway that too because of the ongoing construction work. I am sure by now it must be complete.

The Golden Quadrilateral stretch is impeccable. I was able to be on a average speed of about 140 Kmph. Drive from Bhuj to Rann of Kutch is about. 110 kilometres. Most of the road is a single lane highway built by BSF (Border Security Force) the beauty is the shoulder bend extension at all kerbs.

One has to pay a nominal fee per head to enter Rann of Kutch. You can also drive on the salt pans which is a Hooning paradise.

No damage to car while you Hooning around. BSF jawans as usual are very helpful. Kala Dungar is a place to visit which is about 40 kilometres from Rann of Kutch (Road work in progress).

Best time to visit is December and January. Food is great and staying at local mud houses is a experience.

"Almighty White Desert"

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted Jan 25, 2016
We went in the month of January. We booked a cab and went to the tour. We first headed towards the Black Mountain. It had a spectacular view of the White Desert. The meeting of the desert and the sea is mesmerising with leaving no clue of where the land ends and where the sky begins. Then we headed towards India Bridge. The Bridge is long enough and had a salt base at the bottom. The river flows during Rainy season and at time of visit it was dry leaving the salt behind. View was awesome. Then we went to the White Desert. The endless White land with a view that cannot be explained. We enjoyed the photography over there and then went to Rann Utsav. Had some eateries and shopping and headed back to home with best memories.

Must visit atleast once in lifetime. White sand all around adding Rann Utsav as icing the cake. Though staying in Rann Utsav tents are bit expensive one can also stay at nearby resorts at cheaper rates.

Went there during the winter and this place looks amazing at both sunrise and after sunset. The white land will make you wondering if you're on moon. Clean place, locals treat good. Can feel a little dusty sometimes due to the wind.

"Spent an hour before sunset to half an hour after it in normal time"

  • 6.0/7

It's crystalline salt desert covered with mud and little water. Walk on it barefooted and give a sea pedicure to your feet. Don't try if you have bruises or any sort of abrasion. Be prepared to walk a mile to and from the actual site. It's the only White Desert in the world.

The great Rann of Kutch is one of the most beautiful Sightseeing place in Gujarat. It is completely covered by white salt which makes it most unique place to visit. At the time of sunset the scene at the Rann is most authentic.
