The Green Hotel, Mysore
2270, Vinoba Road, Jayalakshmipuram, Mysuru, Karnataka
The hotel was located inside the city and near to the mall. The destination of the hotel was good. The best thing about Green Hotel is that it does not feel like a hotel. With its beautiful garden space, the quaint coffee shop and the small library and the fact that you can explore this heritage property and find little nooks and crannies, stained glass window seats to relax and look out from. The room was slightly more quaint and the rest of this original building is lovely. If you go and are put into the adjacent rooms you can easily walk over and use all the facilities such as very nice dining area and tv room. No tv in hotel rooms. Beautiful gardens and a spacious appearance add to its great charm. The food was great with mix of north indian and south indian cuisine. The service was prompt and staff courteous.

Did you know green hotel in mysore is actually one of the many small palaces in Mysore. I didn’t!! Its only when i reached there i figured out the antiquity in the details. Right beside the coorg highway and yet cut off from the sounds Green hotel has its own charm. The area is divided into 2 building a huge courtyard (serves as the restaurant, and a semi covered space (again a semi covered restaurant). The main building is the main palace building n it is beautiful. This palace has its own charm. You wanna stay in a palace in an affordable rate (udaipur palaces are a little expensive) this is the palace which is waiting for you. Food is excellent, service makes you feel like a vip and the air gives you a scene of a king or a queen since you just feel like you have come home. The main building holds a cafe and the all the baking is done in their own bakery.
Green Hotel provides a value proposition which might please some and some might scoff at it. Hence, it is essential that you evaluate which category you belong to. PROS 1. Location - It is pretty close to major sightseeing places like Palace, Zoo, Karanji lake and happening area like Temple Road, VV Mohalla with good eateries. 2. Ambiance - It has a large plush garden which few hotels can boast of. Morning breakfast or evening tea in the garden is a great experience. 3. Environment friendly - They are part of UK charity and their profits go to environmental projects. They use solar heating, reuse or recycle water, don't use plastic at all anywhere. For some people this might be "wow thing". For others, it might be like "as if I care". 4. Activities - They keep on conducting some activities. This time around there is some green mela fest and hobbies activity for kids in the evening. 5. Responsiveness - Some people have mentioned about road noise and dogs howling. I didn't find it a challenge at all. Now, there is a placard in room which mentions hot water availability and it takes 4-5 min for hot water to come. So they take reviews seriously and take necessary corrective action. CONS 1. Rooms - Even though it is a palace earlier, please don't expect large heritage rooms of royalty. Rooms are very basic without AC, TV, refrigerator, Shampoo, Conditioner, Covered cabinet etc. Some people jokingly said maybe this is servants room. I don't know may be or may not be. 2. Price - For the basic amenities offered in the room, price charged is a little high. I got much luxurious rooms in Mysore at a far lesser price. 3. Service - Service is a bit slow and might get on your nerves. I stayed in Room #3 and tube light wasn't working. They didn't fix it same day. For check-out, I asked for someone to help me with luggage. No one came and I decided to do it myself. 4. Breakfast - Complimentary breakfast doesn't have good spread. I don't remember complete menu but they had Idli, Vada, Pancakes, Omelets, Cut fruits, Corn flakes, Milk, Coffee and Tea. 5. Entertainment - They have one TV in main reception, Carrom, Chess and Library. No swimming pool or other games are available. I got a bit bored in the evening and decided to roam around instead of staying at hotel. I didn't like hotel so much but my wife loved it. There is no straight answer whether it is good or bad. Decide for yourself whether this suits your taste or not. Note to Management - Hope, I have given an objective unbiased review. If inadvertently I have mentioned anything incorrect, please get in touch with me and I'll be happy to correct it.
