Khuldabad is a historical city that lies at a distance of about 27 km from Aurangabad. Khuldabad is popularly known as the Valley of Saints or Heavenly Abode as many Sufi saints chose to live and die here in the 14th century.
Along with the tombs of the Sufi saints Zar Zari Zar Baksh, Shaikh Burhan-ud-din Gharib Chisti and Syed Shah Zain-ud-din Shirazi, the tomb of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb and some of his aides and family members are also found in this town. Aurangazeb who enjoyed the longest period of 50 years on the throne chose to have a simple grave and was laid next to the tomb of his teacher Syed Shah Zain-ud-din Shirazi.
Khuldabad can be visited throughout the year but the best time to visit is in the month of April when a robe that is said to have been worn by the Prophet Mohammed is displayed to the public.
The famous Ellora caves and Jyothirlinga Grishneshwar temple are located nearby and can be visited while you are in Khuldabad. The place is best suited for student and pilgrim groups as the town has both historical and religious importance.
Khuldabad is easily accessible by bus and cab.
