Gulmarg, formerly known by the name of ‘Gaurimarg’, is one of the most beautiful destinations located in the Baramulla District of Kashmir. Famed for being the highest natural golf course of the world, Gulmarg is situated at an altitude of 2,890 m. Known as the meadow of flowers, Gulmarg is at a distance of 53 km from Srinagar. The destination is a beautiful winter sports resort and the best time to enjoy these is from mid-December to March.
This destination was once a favourite spot of Emperor Jehangir who collected 21 different varieties of wild flowers from Gulmarg. In addition, this place also holds the position of one of the highest lift-served ski resorts in the world. Moreover, Gulmarg is the first place to offer heliskiing in Asia.
Established by Sir Neville Chamberlain, the 18-hole Gulmarg Golf Club has been into existence for 100 years. Covered with a variety of alpine flowers, the Gulmarg Golf Club is one of the most popular attractions in Gulmarg. The best time to enjoy golf here is during summers.
In addition, Alpather Lake and Baba Reshi are the other famous tourist attractions located in Gulmarg. The best time to visit this destination is from May to September and again from November to February.
