Hanuman Theertham is situated on the banks of river South Pennar at about 16 kilometres from the Theerthamalai Temple. A sacrosanct place, the site is believed to be the point where Hanuman threw away the vessel containing the Ganga water, in anger.
The source of this site is the belief that when Hanuman returned with the water from the Ganga, he found that Rama had brought the Ganga water with his arrow, which made him angry. The water thrown by him fell onto the riverbank. Having medicinal values, the water in the spring that flows from rock in the riverbed remains sweet, during summer, even when the river is dry.
