Haroa is another small town located near the Chandraketu ruins. It is considered to be the home of the legendary Pir Gorachand. According to legends, the Sun God pleased with Gorachand’s devotion, ordered him to build a mosque at this place. The only condition was that it was to be done in His absence, meaning Gorachand only had a night to complete the mosque. Gorachand and his followers raced against time but could not complete the mosque and even today, it stands incomplete.
According to historians, the mosque was built on the ruins of a Buddhist stupa that was established here, at the time of Jesus Christ. The ‘darga’ of Pir Gorachand is situated close to the bus stand. Tourists can also visit Lal Masjid situated near Haroa. The remaining structure includes a 30 ft red wall, ponds on three sides and a banyan tree. For a grand view of the river, a trip to Vidyadhari Bridge can be taken too.
