The Himalayan Nature Park in Kufri, one of the popular locations around Shimla, is located at a distance of 16 km. The site renowned for its ski slopes is a natural habitat of rich flora and fauna with about 140 species. Along with the park, the state government has set up a Potato Research Centre.

Spread over an area of 90 hectares, the Himalayan Nature Park was set up in 1992. The park also houses 'Monal', the State bird of Himachal Pradesh, also an endangered Himalayan species.

The site also has a mini zoo amidst dense forests, housing rare breeds of wild animals and pheasants of the Himalayan terrain. The attractions of the zoo include Tibetan Wolf, Brown Bear, Musk Deer and Barking Deer.

Visitors can also see Snow Leopard, Yak, Ghoral, Samber, Himalayan Thar and Black Bear in the zoo. Along with the zoo and nature park, tourists can also engage in horse riding.

Kufri can be approached from a narrow road leading to Chail by a drive of 30 minutes.

"A good place to visit"

There is lot of rush at Kufri. Horse ride is beautiful and it is fun. Nature park is nice and beautiful. You can see in Kufri, the Himalayan ranges and China border. Also one can view the richest village of Himachal Pradesh. Also one see Nag Mandir, Kali temple and Apple orchard. Kufri is quite cold and you can see snow.

"A different kind of Zoo"

Normally zoos are like based on plane grounds, but this one is like made on sloppy hills. You can see different himalayan animals like Leopard, Bear etc.

My children was very happy after seeing the park. My wife was so happy and enjoyed alot there. You will never find that attraction nowhere. It was awesome experience to travel and enjoy like that. We had a too many clicks there but my memory card was in repair I missed that photos but they were sweet memories. I hope every one must visit atleast once in their lifetime and have a lot of fun and enjoyment.

"It's thrilling walking through"

  • 5.0/7
  • Posted Dec 31, 2015
Went to this park with my family. Didn't like it much, it's not even that big. It would hardly be about 1 km walk inside the nature park. Only thing that I liked is walking up and down hill like within a hilly jungle. It's thrilling walking through it.

"Wonderful zoo"

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted Dec 30, 2015
It is an wonderful zoo, but with few animals, you can find ice everywhere. It is about 1 km journey, with sight view of Bear, Leopard, Peacock etc. I loved the beauty and took lots of pics there, especially wooden bridge.

"Nice place to visit"

I loved the place, it is around 1 km walk with Leopard, Bear, Peacock, wooden bridge and more, you will love the place. Once you enter the zoo you will find it hard to choose right track, but ones on right track it's pretty simple.

"Exotic location and well-maintained Zoo"

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted Dec 28, 2015
I visited the Zoo Park area. The location was excellent and exotic. The Zoo area was well-maintained, neat and clean. It had a vast variety of wild spices. Most of the wild zoo animals can be seen comfortable resting.. The photographic spot was well sheltered from frequent Rainfall and good place of temporary resting. The nature beauty was marvellous and abounds in peace and tranquility. I recommend visitors to enjoy this site and don't forget to use Raincoat and Umbrella with them to negotiate frequent rainfall. Day is perhaps the best time to visit while going to park one may carry some eatables but always use dustbin for garbage.

"Take a horse to the park"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Dec 18, 2015
We went there on horses and there up was a temple and park, so many things to eat, there is a place where we can see China's border in telescope and also we can see their military men well dressed. We saw it and love it, after this we had some delicious things, we again ride on horse back to the down, took bus and came to Shimla back, it was lively trip I must say.

It was superb experience to visit, we really had good time in the company of some rarest rare plants, animals like Musk Deer, Bharal, Black Bear, Tibetan Wolf and many more. This place located hardly 15-16km from Shimla and if you are around Shimla please don't forget to visit this place.

"A green valley"

  • 4.0/7
  • Posted Nov 16, 2015
You can reach there on Horse or by foot. Little distance, it takes 40 min to go there by foot. But road is very bad and fully damaged by horses. Some places are very narrow and full of stones. If you choose horse riding then don't forget to bargain the rates. At the top you will see a green big valley from where you can enjoy some spectacular views.
