What can be bad about a place which counts as its frequent guests President to Chief Ministers ? Very well maintained rooms (given it is inside Jaldapara Forest), prompt service and greatest location where you can see animals come to the salt pit (located bang opposite the hotel) right through window, through day and night. In fact, at night some animals, cross the holong river and roam around in the hotel compound. I had dinner with one such wandering one horned rhino. The hotel gives a strategic waiting room that allows all its guests to look straight into the salt pit at all times. Being the only salt pit in Jaldapara forest, you stand a high chance to view animals. Both the elephant safari and jeep safari start from this lodge, making it very convenient for its boarders. There are two problems - (a) with only five rooms and very high VIP visits, rooms are tough to get and one needs to book online at least 120 days in advance, (b) being a prime location inside the forest, it has a lot of hidden costs (like 250 rupees every vehicle entry), making the total cost much higher than average. I loved it. So I didn't mind much.

We wanted to spend few days in the lap of forest so Hollong tourist lodge seemed to be the perfect destination...The experience was ever memorable The lodge is made by WB forest department & run by WB tourism...It's beautifully constructed bungalow with wooden interior, all are very well maintained. The service and behavior of the staffs are beyond questions. Foods are simple & tasty, its awesome viewing wild life while sitting in the adjacent lawn holding a cup of tea!! A must go place for all nature lovers...

The hotel was situated in outskirts of the city and I did not face any difficulty in reaching. The interior and exterior appearance of the hotel was good. The staffs at the hotel were specialized and obliging. The room was spacious, dirt free and well maintained with all the conveniences at good condition. I didn?t face any delay during check-in and checkout. The food at the hotel was good. The money spent on the hotel was valuable within my budget. I would like to recommend this hotel to other travellers.

A known acquaintance of the Forest Department booked this Lodge for me from their office in SN Bose Road, and I faced no problem at check in and check out. This lodge is about 7-8 Kms inside the Jaldapara forest area. No doubt it was a good location. From the rooms one can see the animals roaming around as also they come to the river for drinking water; a nostalgic view. I stayed here for one day. There is a canteen from where food was taken. Since we were out the whole day, therefore, lunch was taken outside. The rooms and service was good. The staff behaviour was good and helpful; they would respond to our calls quickly and gave us good guidance for sightseeing. The rooms had a TV, chairs, table, etc. The food from the canteen was good. I made a visit with my friends to the forest in October 2012.

There was no any difficulty to reach the hotel but while booking we had problem because there was only four rooms. The appearance of the hotel was excellent and attractive. The room was spacious and well maintained. Had good view from room. I had very good quality of food at this hotel. There was no any delay during check in and checkout. I visited this hotel with my friends for relaxation purpose in the month of February. There were no any activities and we had an elephant ride. And the hotel was value for money and once again if I get chance I will defiantly visit the hotel and I had mind blowing experience. I will recommend to other travellers, but we need to book the rooms before three months.

Lodge is very good. I stayed there for two days. 24-hour hot water facility is present. Canteen food is mind-blowing. Both veg and non-veg food is present. Cottage rooms are not available. TV is present. Hotel is located right inside the forest. I did booking through a known person. Hotel services are satisfactory. Rooms are neat, clean and spacious. Non-veg is too good, just like homemade food. Hotel is recommendable to all. It takes almost 15 minutes from station to reach the hotel, so hotel location is great. Hotel is well constructed and well decorated. Jaldapara is an awesome tourist place. You have to place the lunch order before 9 o’clock in the morning. Food quantity is also nice.

It is a nice place for stay. Rooms were well maintained and well managed. They were neat and clean with all basic amenities as TV, geyser, etc. I went there with my family. Hotel has cottage-type rooms as well as normal rooms, and I stayed at normal room. Food was okay. There was Bengali food available. Both veg and non-veg food was there. I stayed there for one night and two days. According to budget, it is worth money paid hotel. Hotel services were good. Car parking facility was also there. Garden and pool were there. Road was not in good condition and there was some maintenance work going on. Hotel location is average. I made my booking directly with the hotel. There were no problems in getting the rooms. Jaldapara as a tourist place is beautiful.

The Hollong Tourist Lodge is around 6 KM inside the Jaldapara Wild Life Sanctuary. The road is not good but the journey is excellent. The right side of 6km road is covered by fencing so that wild animal could not take on to the road. The Hollong lodge is good with big room and big bathroom. Specially 2nd floor VIP rooms are good. During night, number of animals like Elephant, Rihno, Byson, Deer used to come just in front of the lodge which is hardly 300 ft. away from the lodge to take taste of salt on salt pit. Animals come on phase-wise and ofcourse in group one by one. The sounds of animals breaks the silence in night and it\'s really adventourious and enchanting and it\'s really get frightened to the tourist. Forest officials have made an arrangement with big search light so that tourist can watch animals from their room only in night upto 11 p.m. After that no body is allowed to get out from thier room. Over-all, one night stay inside the jungle will be a memorable for life. Food is good, purely bengali food, and offers good quantity. Food comes with a package with morning breakfast and dinner. Two hour jungle safari is there. One can take Elephant ride in morning with six people together on an elephant starts from morning 5 o\'clock for two hours. Spend one night and two days insde the nature with fresh wild air coupled with presence of wild animal, peace and silence. A special gift for the tourist during stay is \'you will hear sound of flowing water on Hollong river\'

Hollong - The Best Property to stay in Jaldapara

5.7/7
Posted 19 Mar, 2014

Hollong Tourist Lodge - a property of WBTDC, maintained by the joint efforts of WBTDC and WBFDC located 8 km inside Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary from the main gate on the highway at Madarihat. This property was established long back when the rooms were available to VIPs only but presently this property is open to all. There are 7 double bedded rooms for tourists and 3 rooms reserved for VIPs. Booking of rooms opens 120 days in advance. You must try from the first day of opening because it is very hard to get confirmation. The property is made of wood and provide you the feeling of being in jungle. The lodge is built up on high concrete pillars so that elephants cannot make any damage. There is a salt pit just in front of the lodge. Forest personnel place salt mixed with soil and other things which the wild animals love to eat. This salt pit attracts wild animals like gaur (India Bison), elephants, rhinos, deer and many birds throughout the day. One can sit by the salt pit and view all animals feeding. The creek of the Torsha river separates the lodge from the salt pit. The salt pit is even visible from the rooms. One can spot a wild fellow even from the rooms of the lodge. The elephant safari in Jaldapara is done from Hollong lodge. Tourists staying in Hollong get the preference and first priority. There is very rush and craze for the elephant safari from Hollong, so tourists staying in private hotels & resorts and other govt. lodges would hardly get the scope for the safari from Hollong. Food served and their service is really appreciable. I highly suggest this property if you have plan to spend nights in Jaldapara. One thing I must share that do not plan your trip as per your wish, it is better if you plan your trip according the availability if rooms in Hollong. This will confirm your stay in Hollong Tourists Lodge. Cheers...!
