Hollong Tourist Lodge Reviews
What can be bad about a place which counts as its frequent guests President to Chief Ministers? Very well maintained rooms (given it is inside Jaldapara Forest), prompt service and greatest location where you can see animals come to the salt pit (located bang opposite the hotel) right through window, through day and night. In fact, at night some an....Read More

Top Reviews of Hollong Tourist Lodge
The Hollong Tourist Lodge is around 6 KM inside the Jaldapara Wild Life Sanctuary. The road is not good but the journey is excellent. The right side of 6km road is covered by fencing so that wild animal could not take on to the road. The Hollong lodge is good with big room and big bathroom. Specially 2nd floor VIP rooms are good. During night, number of animals like Elephant, Rihno, Byson, Deer used to come just in front of the lodge which is hardly 300 ft. away from the lodge to take taste of salt on salt pit. Animals come on phase-wise and ofcourse in group one by one. The sounds of animals breaks the silence in night and it\'s really adventourious and enchanting and it\'s really get frightened to the tourist. Forest officials have made an arrangement with big search light so that tourist can watch animals from their room only in night upto 11 p.m. After that no body is allowed to get out from thier room. Over-all, one night stay inside the jungle will be a memorable for life. Food is good, purely bengali food, and offers good quantity. Food comes with a package with morning breakfast and dinner. Two hour jungle safari is there. One can take Elephant ride in morning with six people together on an elephant starts from morning 5 o\'clock for two hours. Spend one night and two days insde the nature with fresh wild air coupled with presence of wild animal, peace and silence. A special gift for the tourist during stay is \'you will hear sound of flowing water on Hollong river\'
Hollong Tourist Lodge - a property of WBTDC, maintained by the joint efforts of WBTDC and WBFDC located 8 km inside Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary from the main gate on the highway at Madarihat. This property was established long back when the rooms were available to VIPs only but presently this property is open to all. There are 7 double bedded rooms for tourists and 3 rooms reserved for VIPs. Booking of rooms opens 120 days in advance. You must try from the first day of opening because it is very hard to get confirmation. The property is made of wood and provide you the feeling of being in jungle. The lodge is built up on high concrete pillars so that elephants cannot make any damage. There is a salt pit just in front of the lodge. Forest personnel place salt mixed with soil and other things which the wild animals love to eat. This salt pit attracts wild animals like gaur (India Bison), elephants, rhinos, deer and many birds throughout the day. One can sit by the salt pit and view all animals feeding. The creek of the Torsha river separates the lodge from the salt pit. The salt pit is even visible from the rooms. One can spot a wild fellow even from the rooms of the lodge. The elephant safari in Jaldapara is done from Hollong lodge. Tourists staying in Hollong get the preference and first priority. There is very rush and craze for the elephant safari from Hollong, so tourists staying in private hotels & resorts and other govt. lodges would hardly get the scope for the safari from Hollong. Food served and their service is really appreciable. I highly suggest this property if you have plan to spend nights in Jaldapara. One thing I must share that do not plan your trip as per your wish, it is better if you plan your trip according the availability if rooms in Hollong. This will confirm your stay in Hollong Tourists Lodge. Cheers...!
I stayed here for several time. September and April 2012 , March 2011, April 2010, November 2009, February 2008. First of all location wise (to spot Rhino, Bison , Elephant, Peacock , Deer , Parakit and many more ) it is the best Jungle lodge or forest bunglow acroos India. Once you are inside the Hollong tourist lodge you feel the Jungle and may see Rhino or bison within 10-15 Meter distance from the bumglow. In the afternoon and dawn Maximum time Wild animals coming to Saltlik and spend time there. In the evening and night you can see the elephant , rhino, bison from the Bunglow . They have very good Search light Arrangement. The elephant ride is the added advantage of the Bunglow. For elephant ride first preference always given to Those who are stayed at Hollong Bunglow , after that outsider may get chance of elephant ride. Stay here for a perfect jungle experience. Rooms and Toilet are big and cozy, food quality is good and the wonderful part is the elephant safari. The elephant safari is the unique experience and you will love it. Animals like deer, bison and rhinos can be seen from elephant and also from the view area from the lodge. There is a salt pit just beside the lodge, at night animals do come here, and the strong light focus from the lodge will make these animals visible, this experience is unique. Superb location to viewing the one horned rhinocerous at close quarters. You can visit South Kheyerbari leopard Rescue centre , Totopara , Chilapata jungle and Buxa Jayanti from here with a Day Excursion. Big Common area where you can see the animals at a stone through distance.Very tough to manage or get Booking. Though onlinebooking is there . you can go for direct booking through Little bit of Costly as it is govt guest house some part of Lack of maintenance. Always go for View room
it was absolutely unplanned trip. One of my friends had booked the holong tourist lodge for an extended weekend but had to opt out at the last moment. My husband insisted that we should take this opportunity and transferred the booking in our name. Though I was not totally convinced with the idea yet I agreed. After all marriage teaches you to be compliant. But I must say my husband turned out to be really smart and if I had not visited the place I would have made a fool out of myself. The holong tourist lodge was beautifully places amidst lots of green. As soon as we reached the spot we were greeted by not only the hotel staffs but also as many as 6 bisons. A few moments later there was a party of about 50 elephants busy licking the salt from the salt pit located just few inches away from the lodge. It was a visual treat. Soon they were joined by two rhinos. And as dark descended it created an enchanting atmosphere with eyes of the animals glistening, orchestrated symphony of cricket and beautiful breeze. This was just the beginning of our beautiful stay which was enhanced by good, clean rooms, 24 hrs hot and cold water and sumptuous food and not to forget the exciting elephant ride early in the morning. Overall the stay was fantastic and we are already planning to revisit the place.
it was really a wonderful experience staying in hollong tourist lodge , we checked in on 20th december at 1:15 PM and was a bit disappointed that we dint get room looking into the salt lick ... but decided to stay around the place all the time ... saw glimpse of an elephant at around 2 pm ... n then they hid behind the bushes . But we dint have to wait much for the big guys to show up , a huge herd of 20 elephants took over the salt lick at 4:30 pm ... n they thoroughly entertained us wid their activities till 5:15 .. one youngish female charged us thrice ... n a handsum young tusker wanted his photosession to be done properly ... they left the stage only for the gaurs to take over .. it was fun watching them rutting ... the people there used big spotters to spot animals after dusk .... later we saw 3 sambar deers as well , we stayed awake till 1 am in anticipation ...n was fortunate enough to spot a civet just under our window ....... next day took a jeep safari n spotted a sambar ... in the evening the gaurs showed up again ... rhesus monkeys were aplenty ... as my wife had slight respiratpry allergy we needed to go out to the town to buy meds .... on our way back at around 6:30 pm spotted 7 sambar deers on the road n saw the back of 4 elephants in the bushes ... as soon as we reached the lodge we rushed to the pit only to find the 4 elephants standing there like stone statues , used the spotter to take their snaps , later rhinos showed up .. at one point of time there were 4 gaurs , 7 elephants n 5 rhinos standing together on the salt pit , was really mesmerising .. Mr Sunil helped us a lot in spotting those animals ... it was 2 am , i thought i have seen ut all n was planning to go to bed ... suddenly felt a chill down my spine when i heard a growl just underneath my window in the resort garden ... a lil scared we went to look for wat it was .. gosh .. a medium size leopard with an injured paw was limping around .. next morning saw an osprey , steppe eagle , 4 hoary bellied squirrel , 1 porcupine , n the famous single tusker elephant of jaldapara in the salt pit ... couldn't believe my luck ... now about the resort ... the rooms were cozy n comfortable , n it protected us adequately against the biting cold outside ... the foodies were excellent n the service was beoynd expectation ... overall an excellent experience ... certainly will go back there ... have attached a picture of elephants in the salt pit just in front of the loadge
