It was quite a sudden honeymoon plan to this place and need to travel by car. Initially found it difficult to drive such a long distance without knowing the roads but hopefully with the help of Google Map we reached destination without any difficulties. Would suggest for the people to travel by their own car and do not miss such good enjoyable journey.
Better to go prepared with food since the train does not have a pantry. So not too many options for dinner. We travelled by A/C coach so it was comfortable. Not sure about the cleanliness of the sleeper coaches. Of late A/C coaches are being maintained well by the Railways by taking up regular cleaning and repair works.
This was in 2014 Dec. Bangalore to Coimbatore was really fast except for few signals in between near Selam and Tirupur. After Coimbatore, the road was a by-lane and it took long time to reach outskirts of Cochin. Crossing Cochin took time as construction was in progress and between Cochin and Alleppey, most of the roads are by-lane. It is not the best experience to waste time in travelling by car, unless you like driving and the family do not mind being in car for long time.
The road is good for most of the journey. The roads from Coimbatore to Kochi is under construction and is patchy. Avoid travel during late evening or night as it is very dangerous due to construction work. The road from Bangalore to Coimbatore is good and four lanes for most of the journey. Ideal time for travel is early mornings as the road has a lot of traffic during the daytimes and evenings are even worse. I took around 8 hours to Alleppey with a couple of breaks for coffee and a lunch break at Cochin.
