NOTE: Shiradi Ghat is closed for renovation.

Day 1 : Been to Dharmasthala recently. Took Charmadi Ghat when going to Dharmasthala. Awesome scenery, was travelling in the midst of clouds, scenery was awesome. Nature lovers are recommended to travel in this season. Have extra pair of clothes as it might suddenly start raining and then stop immediately. Not a cold weather though. Morning 8 Bangalore Nagarabhavi ---> Dharmasthala around 3 Pm. Took night darshana and slept in lodge.

Day 2 : Dharmasthala to Kukke Had darshan and lunch and then took Kushalnagar, Madikeri, Mysore, Bangalore route when coming back. Scenic drive, roads are good. Covered Golden Tibetian Temple on the way back. Reached Bangalore almost 11 Pm.

I was looking for a detailed note on driving to Dharmasthala from Bangalore but was not able to get the details. It's just that last week when I visited and thought of penning down which I found missing in my research when I was planning.

I started with my wife and 4 yr daughter from Bangalore at 12 pm on Friday in my Honda City, petrol. Fule with Shell Super and N2 in tyres. It took me nearly 1:15 hrs to leave Bangalore, thanks to the traffic. On reaching Neelmangla fly over the drive was a breeze. Toll paid Rs 20/-. Once the flyover is over take immediate left and you will hit the Hassan Toll Road. It's a 4 lane road and driving on it is a breeze. Came across another 4 toll booths and paid some Rs 167/- as toll. Before reaching Hassan, just 7 km before take a left towards Belur and then to Mudigeere - Kottigre- Ujire and Dharmasthala. Belur on-wards the road is just two way but it's in good shape. I was easily maintaining a speed of 60. Charmadi Ghat Road section is narrow but the road is in good condition and curves are not that blind. It took me some 6 hrs and 30 min to reach Dharmasthala, a total distance of 335 km. Average was about 16. 5 kmpl while driving in the range of 60 - 80 kmphr.

Stayed in Rajatdhari Guest House there, A/C rooms at Rs 800/- per night. For dinner came to Ujire about 8 km from Dharmasthala. Disha restaurant has A/C sitting and good food.

Next day had Darshan in Manjunatha Swamy temple, had Prasadam and then returned to rest in the room.

A very good attraction is the Car Museum in Dharmasthala where you can see some good old cars dating fro 1900 on-wards.

Around 230 pm left for Kukke Subramanyam Temple it's 52 km, roads are very good going through dense forests, is really a scenic view.

While returning the next day to Bangalore, fuelled full tank at Indian oil at Dharmasthala itself.

Started at 8 AM in the morning back through the same course and tolls reached Bangalore at around 2 pm with 2 minor brakes. Speed maintained 60 - 80 kmphr and mileage this time was 17. 8 kmpl which is the best so far I have received with my City. On Ghat section of 20 km it was about 30-40 kmphr speed as this time the climb was there.

Most memorable visit to Dharmasthala. Specially through the Ghats of Charmadi is mind-blowing. Lord Manjunatha is Worshiped here. We started from Bangalore and took the Hassan route then to Sakleshpur to Mudigere, then via Kottigehara which leads to Charmadi Ghat, and continued to Ujire which is 8 Km from Dharmasthala.

As Shiradi Ghat is on NH-75 (Earlier NH-48) is closed, presently the best route to reach Dharmasthala is Bangalore- Hassan- Belur- Mudigere- Kottigehara- Charmadi Ghat- Ujire- Dharmasthala. NH-75 is well-maintained now with 2 lanes on both sides. But, the road becomes two ways in some places. There are 4 toll booths from Nelamangala to Hassan. There are a bunch of good eateries on the way. Driving through Charmadi Ghat is a wonderful experience. The view point on the way is breathtaking. Dharmasthala is a famous pilgrimage place. The best time to travel here is during September to May.
