The stations on the route have basic passenger facilities like drinking water, restrooms and eating joints serving snacks and local food.

One of the Best Roads on AH 47. 200 Km in less than three hours. Worthwhile to spend couple of hours exploring the gigantic Chitradurga Fort.

From Chitradurga, catch NH 13 which is only double lane. The traffic is heavy, especially lot of trucks taking this route (probably no toll and slightly less distance). The distance of 120 km from Chitradurga to Hoskote takes about 3 hours. From Hoskote, one has to ask for directions and its a short 14 km drive to Hampi. One can find options of good hotels and resorts on the way, but if one has to experience the eerie feeling of staying in a city of ruins, best option is to drive right till Hampi Bus stop and look for hotels near bus stop/hampi bazar.

This is not exactly a hotel. Its five rooms in the first floor of a house located right next to the bus stop / car and taxi stand. If one has to stay amidst the Hampi Town, this is probably the best possible option. This has few advantages of having an open terrace and views of the temple and...more »

You can take the toll road till Chitradurga. After that take the Hospet Road. Once you get off the toll, you don't find many personal vehicles. Lot of heavy vehicles ( mainly trucks). No decent eating area, until you reach Hospet. There is a KSTDC restaurant near Kudligi, which was decent.

If you are planning your trip in advance its better to book train. Only cons is you need to catch another bus from Hospet to Hampi if you are going by train.

We planned a trip to Kishkindha Nagari or Hampi by car as we were suggested that it gives you lot of leeway when in Hampi considering that monuments are spread over a vast area of 25 sq km.

Half of the journey is on NH-4 which is part of Golden Quadrilateral and goes without saying that the ride is perfect. At Chitradurga, you have to take right on Solapur Road where you tend to slow down due to small road.

Once in Hampi, we were able to move around easily and quickly as our big advantage was that we had got a very good driver who knew well about the area. We covered Daroji Bear Sanctuary which is about 20km out of town, Hampi monuments as well as Tungabhadra Dam.

My wife, our daughter, son-in-law & their 2 1/2 year old son and I started on the 365km journey from Bangalore to Hampi at 9.00 am. Our Chevrolet Aveo Car was in good nick and we could drive at reasonable speed on good 4-lane national highway up to Chitradurga, which is about 200 km from Bangalore. There are nice eateries on the highway near Tumkur, we stopped at one of them for some snacks 7 coffee. Further road takes a scenic route among the hills where many wind mills have been erected.

Approach to Chitradurga is beautiful. Chitradurga town has some good hotels/restaurants for having lunch. After lunch, we took the state highway to Hospet - distance of 130 kms. The road is single lane and has heavy traffic with large trucks plying continuously. It took us much longer to cover this stretch and we could reach Hospet only by 5.00 pm. Road near to the entrance to Hospet town and inside the town are in pathetic state due to poor maintenance. We took slight detour to visit the famous Tungabhadra Dam (generally known as T B Dam). Private cars are not allowed to go up to the dam.

Visitors have to take shuttle bus service, Rs.10/- per person who takes you to a view point high on a hill for a majestic view of the total dam below. There is a government guest house as well on this hill top. We saw the dam with all the gates fully open and water gushing out with thunderous roar. We were lucky to be there at dusk and could see the illumination on the dam as well as in the park maintained nearby.

Hampi is about 15 km away from Hospet and although this is also a single lane road but road surface is good and traffic is moderate. The road leads you directly to the bus stand near Virupaksha Temple where there is ample space for car parking.
