Once we decided to go on a package tour. We contacted the KSTDC and came out with a very attractive cost saving package with must see places, accommodation and a guide. We had a very nice experience with the driver and staff guide who were so kind and humble. The only problem is the language of the guides at the sightseeing places who were hired locally at those spots by the department guide and those local guides were good enough to explain in Hindi and Kannada while we were not comfortable with both of those languages. They took us to Hospet Mayura Vijayanagara Hotel of KSTDC at TB Dam which was ok. The food here is the worst one that we have had anywhere in any of our previous tours in India. Other than that everything is perfect.

Started early morning from Bangalore via the Bangalore - Chitradurga-Hospet route. Till Chitradurga the road is awesome ! Speed was continuously 100. Even enjoyed the Chitradurga fort and it's great history.

Post lunch started for Hospet and the pain started. The road is not at all good and full of potholes. Also being full of trucks, it is very dangerous to drive after evening. Please be careful !

We stayed in Hospet that night and next day early morning left for Hampi. You must take a guide to see and understand the history behind this awesome place. It took entire day to see the empire and we enjoyed a lot. We planned to have lunch in Mango tree but we couldn't :( as time didn't permit.

Overall the experience was awesome and we enjoyed a lot :)

While coming back we took a different route via Anantapur and it was perfect right decision choosing this road. The condition of this route is awesome and we covered the entire around 400km distance in just 5 and half hours :) Though the toll we had to pay was a bit higher.

Overall it was a great experience and a must visit place. We enjoyed the vacation a lot.

The route has a toll road till Chitradurga, which is good. After that, you turn towards Hospet. The road from Chitradurga to Hospet is okay, with a few bad patches. The biggest issue on this road is that there are lots of speed breakers with hardly any indications. The speed breakers are not painted, making it very hard to spot from a distance. It gets even worse post sunset.

The biggest disadvantage of this route is that there are extremely few eating options, which makes it difficult for travellers accompanied by small kids or elderly people.

We were a group of 4 and visited Hampi over a weekend. We left Bangalore at around 3:30 pm and took the route via Tumkur Road, Peenya, Chitradurga, and Hospet to reach Hampi by around 8 pm. Once you cross Tumkur, the road till Chitradurga is a toll road and is in good condition. At Chitradurga,...more »

One of the Best Roads on AH 47. 200 Km in less than three hours. Worthwhile to spend couple of hours exploring the gigantic Chitradurga Fort.

From Chitradurga, catch NH 13 which is only double lane. The traffic is heavy, especially lot of trucks taking this route (probably no toll and slightly less distance). The distance of 120 km from Chitradurga to Hoskote takes about 3 hours. From Hoskote, one has to ask for directions and its a short 14 km drive to Hampi. One can find options of good hotels and resorts on the way, but if one has to experience the eerie feeling of staying in a city of ruins, best option is to drive right till Hampi Bus stop and look for hotels near bus stop/hampi bazar.

This is not exactly a hotel. Its five rooms in the first floor of a house located right next to the bus stop / car and taxi stand. If one has to stay amidst the Hampi Town, this is probably the best possible option. This has few advantages of having an open terrace and views of the temple and...more »
