The drive to Ooty from Mysore is nice but itís through the Bandipur and Madumalai Tiger Reserve. Ethically it was not the right thing as it disturbs wildlife noise, air as well as other pollutants that damage the ecosystem.

I would recommend alternate routes, also the roads are narrow and will not recommend that one drives through the forest anytime other than during the day (if one has to).

Ooty was nestled in clouds when I visited last and it was more than nippy. So please read the weather forecast before you visit, you may need to carry a few woollens.

The hotel is 150+ year old heritage property decently maintained and offers a taste of life during the Raj. The...more »

The drive was pleasant, en-route there was a Bird Park near Mysore. It was maintained very well and the environment was damn clean and tidy. It is a must visit if anyone is passing through Mysore there are good eateries near Gundlupet which is after Mysore and from this point on the road gets divided into Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Gundlupet has many options like coffee day, good north Indian hotel and a mess too for non-vegetarians.

I started late in the evening from Bangalore and stayed in Mysore that night. Early in the morning travelled to Ooty via Bandipur Forest to enjoy the beauty of forest ride and took 34 hair pin bend curve route. This was really a tough route yet enjoyed.

Well journey from Bangalore was nice due to good road condition. The scenic view from Gundlupet to Ooty is fantastic. People need to be very cautious with self driving although you may have good driving skills but these are Ghat Roads. You need to be a pro in driving on this route.

We had a good experience in this journey, we had seen lot of wild animals on the way to Ooty like Bull, Peacock, Elephant, Deer Etc. Had a good experience in forest area and Ghat Section. Very nice people they helped us when our vehicle got repaired in middle of the forest in the night time, such wonderful experience it was. Waterfalls are awesome at that place.
