This is one of the best roads you will find anywhere across India. Even after Madurai, its a single lane road stretch of about 160 km to Rameshwaram. The road is well-built and scenically too its an awesome drive. The bridge joining Rameswaram with the country is worth a stop and its one of its kind.

The roads are awesome with 6 lane till Madurai, Madurai to Rameswaram 2 lane travel. The roads are good. Its toll road. There is a toll to enter Rameshwarm and also to enter Indira Gandhi Bridge. The drive on bridge would be awesome. If driving in summer donít forget to have Tatinungu Fruit, delicious and cheap here. The sea is not clean as people have made it dirty. But its opposite in Danushkodi, with clear blue water seen in the sea.

Awesome journey and great road experience on the highways. Excellent roads, lot of hotels on the highways, pleasant drive. Toll fees are high but it is worth as they need to maintain the roads with such great quality. Plan your trip to visit Madurai which is on the way.

I booked KPN Travels only because the other operator in this route such as SRS Travels had hiked the price to double the rate because of holiday season. The service was non stop and it doesn't stop for dinner, tea or even for refreshments(toilet). It was very inconvenient as my father was travelling with us and he has a medical problem and had to go to toilet in short duration. Even after request, the driver was reluctant to stop for him. The driver and helper doesn't understand Hindi or English and were quite rude.

I had been planning for a trip to Rameshwaram for some time. Though mostly people visit Rameshwaram for religious purpose, I was more interested in places around like Dhanushkodi, Adam's Bridge, Gulf of Mannar marine bio reserve park etc. Of course temple visit and pooja was part of my wife's...more »

Roads are one-way all the way to Madurai. After that its two way but still very good roads and average speed comes around 60-80 kmph. We stopped for breakfast at Salem city and then stopped for lunch somewhere between Madurai and Rameshwaram. We took a stop also at the bridge connecting Rameswaram Island to the mainland. It is called Pamban road bridge. Also there is a Pamban rail bridge which is seen from the road bridge. Total time taken to reach Rameshwaram is around 11-12 hrs including stops.
