By Bus – There are several buses, both private and government-owned that runs from Bangalore to Sabarimala. Sabarimala – A Town for Pilgrims
Amidst the dense forest of the Periyar Tiger Reserve in Kerala is the sacred Hindu pilgrimage centre of Sabarimala. It is perched on a hilltop and is surrounded by the Western Ghats. It is believed that the Hindu god Ayyappan sat down in Sabarimala for meditation after putting the demoness Mahishi to death.

Being a pilgrimage centre, sightseeing in Sabarimala is restricted to religious shrines. This includes the Ayyappa Temple, which is perched on a hilltop at an altitude of 468 m and is blanketed by green cover in the form of dense forests. The Vavar Shrine - dedicated to a Muslim saint Vavaru Swamy, Malikkappuram Devi Temple which lies on the left side of the Ayyappa temple on a hillock. A festival that is celebrated in the month of January is the Makaravilakku Festival, which is famous for the jewels that adorn the idol of Lord Ayyappa.
