I had been to Tumkur on a wet morning in June, 2015. The journey takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes to cover a distance of approximately 70 kilometers. The route is via Jalahalli Cross, Nelamangala and Kyathsandra. The road to be taken is National Highway 4 which connects Bangalore to Pune. Some KSRTC Buses go above the Expressway while some go beneath. The road from Bangalore to Tumkur, especially after Jalahalli cross is excellent and one can go beyond 100 kilometers per hour for most of the journey. Tumkur is also known in Kannada as the " Kalpatharu Nadu"

I have travelled in my own car with my family in the month of Jun, basically the drive was to Devarayanadurga. Started at 09:30 from Bangalore and reached at 13:30 Hrs. A small delay on the way was due to breakfast stop and a missed route. We opted NH4, and the drive was beautiful since the roads were quiet good. After the diversion from NH to SH the scenery on both the side were awesome. Better carry adequate food and money as there are no dabhas and ATM on the way. Fuel stations are also rare.

We went to visit Akshayakalpa, an organic milk producing company based in Tiptur.

Left at around7.00 am and it took us around 3.5 hours to Tiptur. Took the NH-4 till Tumkur. Road was quite packed till the toll gates at Nelamangala with lots of weekend travellers. Wished we'd left a bit earlier. Road was very good, better be since the stretch has 2 tolls. Took a 20 min stop for breakfast at Vrindavan Veg Restaurant. Several restaurants dot this area including a Kamat Upachar around 20 km from Nelamangala. 82 km was covered in around 2 hrs including the breakfast break.

From Tumkur, we took the ring road to reach the junction that leads to Gubbi, SH-206 towards Gubbi and onwards to Heggere and Tiptur. The road was very good but mostly a single lane one. Had a close brush with an oncoming car when I misjudged while overtaking a bus which was slowly moving ahead of us for quite sometime. Thank heavens that the car just had a scratch.

Reached Tiptur by 10.45am.. visited the office of Akshayakalpa http://blog.akshayakalpa.org/ and then Mr.Reddy (founder of Akshayakalpa) took us to one of the farms they're working with. Really inspired by his initiative to bring farmers together to invest in this wonderful concept of producing pure organic milk. After spending a good two hours there to understand the process and investments required we visited Akshyakalpa packaging plant which is around 10 km from the farm. Here we saw the whole process of milk collection, packaging, testing and logistics. By this time we were pretty famished and were very delighted to be offered lunch at their canteen. Lovely ragi mudde (ragi balls) with saaru (thin curry) and then rice with some delicious majjige (buttermilk).

It was soon time to bid goodbye to the Aksayakalpa team and head back home. We tanked up on the way back at Tiptur town outskirts and had a pleasant ride back home via Tumkur city, encountered some good rain when we entered Bangalore outskirts.

An eventful and memorable tri, might make another visit soon to Akshayakalpa.

Travelled from Hebbal. Hence, we could hit the Bangalore-Tumkur highway quickly. We went through the tollway up to Nelamangala, because since the toll free road (which is just beside the toll road) has many speed breakers and slow moving traffic. The highway is excellent with no diversions (at least up to Tumkur).
