We stayed in Gulmarg for 2 nights but one night is more the enough. One can make Srinagar as base and visit Gulmarg as one day morning – evening trip. Even if you are staying at Gulmarg you start your day early to avoid long queue and tourist traffic as most of the people visit morning - evening to Gulmarg from Srinagar so before they reach if you go for Gondola you can enjoy. If you are making Srinagar your base and visiting Gulmarg Morning - evening then from Srinagar you start your day earliest possible and do not make any halt / sight seeing on the way but straight go to Gondola it should be your first priority. It is very important how to buy Gondola ticket, you have three options, 1. book online ticket, 2 if one is travelling Srinagar by air they have option to book it at Airport, Gondola ride booking counter is there inside Airport on arrival you can book it before you exit from Airport, 3. at the Gondolaride ground level. It is advisable to book your ticket online / counter at Airport to avoid long queue at ground level for instant booking, even if you have taken online / airport ticket you have to take boarding pass at the ground level but there is separate window for online booking and airport booking so you can skip long queue of instant booking if it is peak season. If you are booking your ticket online / Airport you have to bare in mind that validity of your Gondola ticket is of only one day so if you change your itinerary or due to bad weather if Gondola ride is not working you loose your money. There is no booking office at first stage for booking of the second stage, so if one has definite plan to go till 2nd stage they must book both stage ticket together. We inquired at ground level at the time of taking boarding of 1st stage for booking for second stage they informed that tickets are not issued for second stage due to bad weather but when we reached first stage, 2nd stage Gondola ride started so we missed 2nd stage ride so if you are firm in going to 2nd stage buy it along with your first stage ticket only but keep in mind if 2nd stage is not working you will loose your money as they do not refund. Gum boots and Coat are available on rent, it is recommended to hire both but Gum boots are must but for kids both are must. It is also advisable that you take some polythin bags (from your home as it is banned in Kashmir so you will not get it locally) atleast for the kids and elderly people you wear it above socks and lock it with rubber ring so even if some ice goes inside Gum shoe you are protected. Rent of Gum boot and Coat will be about 60 – 100 Rs. It is also advisable to buy hand gloves they are like use and throw if one wants to play with ice it is recommended to buy it, they are available at 50 Rs. Rates of sledge ride you inquire from TRC else there are chances you will pay very high for it, they bargain a lot, so before going you should know exact cost of all rides.

The place Gulmarg is well connected to Srinagar, which is reachable by air/road from Jammu/Delhi. You can take trains upto Jammu & then can have road drives thru longest tunnel of Asea. Air travel can be from Jammu & while approaching Srinagar, the view of the snow capped mountains will add thrills to you. For outdoor activities out in snow, cover yourself with adequate winter wears which is available for a price. Have snow goggles to avoid the blinding of eyes. Balance yourself while walking/skating on the snow, else the fall will be too much painful or may be worse. Don't talk a lot with each other which will make you to take more breaths & eventually tiring as the mountain air is thin with less oxygen compared to normal places at low altitude. Carry enough medicines for aches,colds & muscle cramps.
