Whole journey takes 5-6 hours via. Volvo or other luxury buses. There is scenic beauty all around the roads due to fields of Punjab. Journey was luxurious and seats were comfortable. People travelling with me were friendly. Long 6 hours felt like nothing due to friendly environment and movie played for entertainment in bus.
Its awesome when you reach the beautiful city in 4 hours with only few bucks. The Station at Chandigarh is under renovation, which might cause you some problem. If you are traveling by kids, please take the baby food and water with you, because you can not trust the local vendors in train if they are selling original or not. When you reach Amritsar there are many Autowalas outsides the Station which have a fix price.
Beautiful journey it is, with lots of eating joints in midway. But lots of toll booths on the way. You can make a stop near Jalandhar at Haveli on main gate road or even at Mc Donalds too. Its a rushy road but roads are wide enough. Make sure you carry good music along, you will love the journey.
Journey was safe and sweet. Punctuality in arrival and departure of the bus and staff behaviour was good. One halt point at Jallandhar Bus Stand/ haveli Jallandhar. It took 4-4:30 hours journey from Chandigarh to Amrtisar. Even roads are excellent with moderate traffic during the peak hours in the route.
There are good roads and beautiful sceneries through out. Punjabi Dhabas are very good place for on road food. Some of them are having toilets much much better than Delhi airport's equivalents. There are many toll plazas spoiling the smooth flow of vehicles. Some of them have very long boring traffic block.
