Kasauli is located at a distance of 53.6 km from Chandigarh. A beautiful hill station and a popular tourist destination of Himachal Pradesh, Kasauli is well connected to Chandigarh by road and rail. However, the best way to reach Kasauli from Chandigarh is by road, which takes around an hour. The places covered during the journey from Chandigarh to Kasauli are Chandigarh - 12 km -> Panchkula - 14 km -> Kalka - 24 km -> Dharampur - 12 km -> Kasauli. It was a great experience to have a long drive on Chandigarh Shimla highway and relax for 2 days in Kasauli. Kasauli is a perfect weekend getaway with exotic & serene environment. Good eating options on the road & in the town. There are many options to see like monkey point, sunset point, sunrise point, Upper mall, lower mall, Dharampur, Barog etc.
The moment we crossed Timber Trail, suddenly the road starting winding up the hills and mist enveloped us from all sides. It was an amazing drive up. However being a weekend, the whole Highway as well as the hill station itself was extremely crowded and that took away the charm of visiting the place. Suggest, please don't visit the place during the weekends.
We took local bus of state transport and it took too much time around 4.5 hour. The speed was very slow and halts were too many. We also had to change the bus in between which took extra time. No direct bus facility was available from Chandigarh to kasauli and I prefer Volvo or taxi.
For those living in and near Chandigarh, Kasauli is the perfect destination to go for a day or even for a weekend. It was a great drive and lot of attractions to visit. The Express Highway surely is very well maintained, and Dharampur and the Timber Trail Resorts in the way are good attractions to visit.
