It was overall a good journey. The bus condition was so so but we enjoyed a lot. I was enjoying the views from the bus and was travelling on the narrow roads and it was quite a thrill. It was a good trip whenever it starts mountain area. Snake roads and terrible turns and you will get your bowls in the mouth. The most comfortable way to travel is to board early morning bus.
There are more hotels available close to railway station in Manali area but this one is value for money, clean and easy to approach. You can reserve in Ginger Hotel. Another way is to do this journey without staying overnight and save time is to take a bus.
In bus, I did not feel good because there was no window, and I am not habitual of mountain travel so I was little bit scarce, but with friends it was nice journey. We did antakshari in bus and journey experience was overall good. And we reached at Manali in evening at Sagar Resort. I was feeling cold at that evening time.
The roads are very good and the entire route is very scenic so you will enjoy the drive. It took me roughly 7-8 hours from Chandigarh. On our way back it was snowing in Manali and raining in other areas but we didn't face any problems. You will find lots of dhabas on the way and lots of petrol pumps so there is nothing to be worried. On your way you can take a halt at Kullu, Pandoh.
Overall experience was good and we enjoyed a lot, especially the sightseeing in main Manali.
Hotel was good in all respects and food in Manali was also good. Awesome climate, weather, location and fine place for couples and for anyone. Must be there for any reason. Excellent and exotic place for any season.
Distance from Chandigarh to Manali is around 300 km, however the roads are terrible which make this 6 hour drive into an 8 hour drive. We faced a lot traffic due to an accident on the way and this seems to be the norm.
Coupled with the driver of our car was unco-operative and rigid. Please ensure that your entire itinerary is agreed with all the places mentioned. The drivers have a mind of their own and will not take you to a place based on your plan. We used chandigartaxiwala.com - don't use this travel agent. Terrible service and very arrogant attitude!
