The ECR road is yet to be completed for the renewed version. Once the road layout is completed the road express will be one of the best, expecting the plans to get completed soon. At present the road conditions are just average and the time taken to travel in the route is a little longer and boring!
Wonderful experience to travel by car in the ECR road. You may find some tender coconut shops. On the way you can have good food at Mahabalipuram or Chennai ECR Restaurants. As it is not motorways you may have to be careful with indiscipline driving.
If it is drizzling weather, it will be wonderful to go by this road. An altrenate is using NH 45 . Though it is comparatively safer road, NH 45 will be boring as a normal Highway.
The journey from Chennai to Pondicherry was very tiring and boring journey as it took too long around 7 hours. The scenery throughout the roads were good but it was too long a journey to enjoy the scenic beauty. The bus condition was okay and the bus was going at a fast rate but still then it took too long. As we didn't direct train from Cuttack to Pondicherry so we had to come to Chennai and then proceed to Pondicherry. So I recommend to take direct train from your city to Pondicherry.
ECR is under construction. No clear road signs. Still we manged to reach destination on time. During return at night, it was too hectic due to heavy rain and bad driving view. My advice to avoid ECR for a year atleast as the construction will take some time.
Had a good experience in travelling , we could able to see many places during a long travel. We used by pass route from Chennai. The roads are wide enough and superb which made us to reach on time as well as safe . Direction made us to reach the spot correctly.
This route has:
Tiruchi Chennai Hwy and Grand Southern Trunk Rd/தேசிய நெடுஞ்சாலை 45
