Today, (I. E ., on 27-02-2018), I have traveled by flight No. SG 3403 from Chennai to Vijayawada - My seat No. Was 8 be. I must say, at the Chennai Airport, the checking-in-officer at the counter initially tried to encourage/prompt me to buy a preferred seat by paying some Rs. 600/- additional money. (After I boarded the flight, I saw a few seats were vacant, but that's a different thing! But, when I said, I may be allotted any free seat of his choice, he asked me whether he could check the weight of my cabin bag. It's a small bag very much less in dimensions than the one prescribed for cabin baggage. It is a bag which could accommodate clothes for two days' stay plus a computer and its paraphernalia. It's a brand new Samsonite bag. Unfortunately, it weighed two Kg more than the prescribed limit of 7 kg. Then the officer told me that the bag could not be allowed into the cabin and asked me to get it screened and checked in to the luggage compartment or else pay extra money for the additional weight of 2 kg in the cabin bag !! I told him, though I could check in 15 kg, I have only one piece in my hand and that I had no other bag to check into the luggage compartment and requested him if he would consider and allow my cabin bag. My worry was, as it is a brand new bag, it may get spoiled in no time if it goes into the luggage compartment. But, he insisted that either I should send the bag to the luggage compartment or pay extra money. I was helpless. To my surprise, subsequently I noticed many passengers had carried into the cabin bigger bags with more weight than I had in my hand. I had a feeling that the officer was trying to maximize money for SG airlines. I politely told the officer that though he was right in following the rules, if he had some discretion in his hands, he may still consider my request. He did not budge and I checked in my tiny bag into the luggage compartment. I had no choice! This incident has made me to think that in future I must think twice before buying a ticket in spice jet. Based on the mail sent by the Airlines(Spice jet) we checked in 120 minutes before departure time, hence we were allotted the last rows(18th and 17th) where there is no much push back. It seems following the instructions given by the Airlines will leads to discomfort. Make my Trip may advice these Airlines to give preference of allotting best seats to the customers booked through MMT.
