The travel to Chitradurga is very good due to the excellent road which is part of the Golden Quadrilateral Connection, Bangalore to Pune. You can breeze through easily except for the disturbance of toll gates once in a while. You can cover approximate 200 kms in 2. 5-3 hrs including a tea break. There are many options for stop-over in Nelamangala-Tumkur stretch - particularly for vegetarians. After Tumkur there is only one decent place for food. Of course you can directly drive into Chitradurga without any stopover and head to Lakshmi Tiffin Room for snacks/tea. The route is also very scenic with surrounding mountains and you will be welcomed with windmills as you approach Chitradurga.

You can take a detour to Vani Vilas Sagar Dam on the way (which we didn't do).

Mode of Transport:Bus
I had been to Chitradurga on a winter morning in the month of November, 2014. I left the Majestic Bus Stop in Bangalore at around 6 Am and reached Chitradurga at around 10:30 Am covering a distance of around 200 kilometers in 4:30 hours. The journey is via Tumkur, Sira, and Hiriyur. The bus journey is quite comfortable and the road are excellent. The road to be taken is NH-4 and the expressway after Jalahalli Cross is to say the least, a pleasurable experience, that too in day-time. The best time to visit Chitradurga is between October to March.

Roads are very good, we took the Tumkur Express Highway, many tolls though. Good food available on the Highways. Many stops for good breakfast.

Better to start in the mornings, you will reach by 11 or 12 if you leave by 7. 30 - 8 Am. Take a good mood along and some good music as the road is just great.

While your way back in Davaspete don't miss the North Karnataka hot meal at Kamat.

Walking here will be like walking into a painting. Thought he city is really in a mess I thought. They should really take care the filth is far from the fort also.
