Roads are well maintained, NH-7, except for a small stretch before reaching coimbatore and a another from pallghat. Do take a note of the monsoon season, which is pretty bad (from June-august) which is not a recommended time to travel.

A trip to the God's own country.

We took a semi sleeper bus from Coimbatore and took us around 6 hours to reach the place. Dont forget to take the hotel owner's number as he can very well guide you to nice places. When you avail massage services, dont tell those people you were directed to that place by your hotel owner, and ask for discount.

You can reach Allepey by road from Cochin and board the houseboat from there. They'll drop you back at the boarding point if you want to or else in a completely different location depending upon your schedule. Do carry light clothes. Especially cotton shirts, tops and lowers. Those are comfortable. Carry your camera and chargers. Phones do work so take your charger along. You can also carry some movie CDs/DVDs as most of the houseboats have TV sets with DVD players. Most important of all, don't forget MOSQUITO REPELLANTS, especially the creams/gels. There's a huge variety available in the market these days. Carry snacks, eatables, toiletteries as well. Carrying some bottles of mineral water would also help. Most of the houseboats have these too. But yes, carry your booze along. You wont get anything else but 'Toddy' and Beer.

We can take a car, people who don't wanna travel you can take a Bus or train.. don't worry about the local travel the auto guys and the taxi guys are very friendly there nice experience.
