I travelled from Bangalore and took a KSRTC bus, reached in about 6-7 hours. The bus stop is around 10 kms before Hampi. From there you have frequent sharing-autos and individual autos too. Or there is a bus that goes to and fro every half an hour.

If you are travelling from Bangalore, please be warned that the road till Chitradurga is brilliant. But after that, be prepared for what I would call, the worst experience of my life. Unfortunately for me, when I booked my bus tickets, only the last sleeper was available. In the middle of the night, it felt like I was suffering from an everlasting seizure. This carried on till I got to Hospet. Got down from the bus feeling all mixed up. On my way back, the bus driver told me that the government will be repairing this road soon. Considering it’s on the way to a World Heritage Site, it should have been done a long time back. But I wouldn’t want to comment on that aspect. So please try and avoid this road. In Hampi, if you want to get to the other side of the Tungabhadra, please be informed that this place is accessible by a small boat which runs every 5-10 minutes and the last trip is at 6 P.M. Each trip costs you Rs.15. The only other way is you need to go to Hospet and from there it’s around 30kms which means you’ll be travelling close to 45kms. Take the boat. It just takes 2 minutes. Apart from this, there is nothing else you need to be worried about. People here are friendly and you can get around pretty easily.

From Bangalore there are various buses plying towards Hampi. Even if you don't get a direct bus,you can take any bus going to Hospet or Chitradurga and then change over to a bus for Hampi.
