Badrinath can be reached by air but the nearest airport is in Dehradun approx 318 kms and after that one has to go by road.The nearest rail is about 300 kms in Rishikesh. By road is the easiest and most convenient way to travel.Regular buses are available for Badrinath from Rishikesh, Haridwar, Dehradun and other important places. As Badrinath is situated at a high altitude approximately 3100m and the temperature ranges from 18 degrees C - 6 degrees C so one must take woolen clothes even when visiting in the summer months.Be sure to carry lots of warm clothes and proper walking shoes and socks. Do not carry valuables as you will not find a proper place to keep them. Carry common medicines. Those who suffer with travel sickness be sure to carry medicines as most of the travel is on winding ghats.The best time to travel is from June to October though the earlier months May June and July have more visitors. Please do not try taking pictures inside the temples as the cameras will be confiscated.

There are direct buses and private vehicles directly from haridwar to badrinath.Also one can reach Joshimath first,which is on the way to badrinath and then reach badrinath from joshimath through shared taxis or buses.Totally the travel will be in ghat road section and there are lot many turnings,which switches on a mixi grinder in our stomach.Better carry lemon/citrus stuff in form of choclates or anything,before you start travelling to badrinath.Afraid not by seeing the valleys and deep turnings in the hills.All the drivers are the most perfect guys to drive in such a difficult hilly area.But the weather is unstable.Sometimes it rains suddenly and quickly you may have hot sun or you may feel too cold due to cold breeze.So better to carry sufficient winter wear as well as cooling glasses,rain coats. For accomodation,there are private hotels as well as ashrams of almost every region.One should have advanced booking to find a room at the ashrams.If you do not have a booking,there will be less chances of getting a room,but the ashrams allow you to have night sleep at their big halls and also they provide you with blankets necessary for your sleep.

We always have driven down from Delhi to these places, which also gives you the flexibility to make unplanned halts as and when necessary. Otherwise, one can also take bus services from Rishikesh. It is generally very cold in Badrinath, with chilly winds. So sufficient warm clothes to layer yourself up are a must. However, summer months would be comparatively better to visit Badrinath - the only downside would be that the place shall be crowded.

Approachable only by road from Haridwar/Rishikesh. Open only in the summer months, due to heavy rainfall/snow in the winter/monsoon. Keep an extra day in the plan, just in case you are delayed by the frequent landslides that occur in the route.
