The best way to reach Munnar is to get to Cochin and then take the bus or hire a vehicle to reach Munnar in 3-4 hours. For local travel in Munnar request your hotel to organize a vehicle. There are star category hotels and resorts catering to the needs of tourists. Warm fleece jacket or woolen jumpers are necessary. Take an umbrella or raincoats because heavy clouds might appear quite suddenly over the mountains. After 5pm thick fog starts to envelope the hills sometimes giving zero visibility. Plastics are banned in Munnar panchayat. Avoid the monsoon season while visiting Munnar.

Buses are available from Kochi, but hiring a cab helps in coming to close contact with nature, there are a number of unknown sightseeing points on the way to Munnar, none of them will be missed ! Nearest Airport and Railway station to reach Munnar is at Kochi, which is 138km away. The drive from Kochi to Munnar takes around 3.5 to 4 hours. The worst part of the journey is within Kochi, wherein you experience traffic jams. The route to Munnar is scenic with abundant scenery. But the roads are full of sharp curves and you would be advised to eat lightly before travelling.
