The area is easily accessible - what with Google being all pervasive, there is hardly any need to bore you with details. Reaching Siliguri & travelling onwards is all there is to it. The regular tourists already know how to haggle with the service providers and, in this respect, Sikkim is no different from the rest of the world. The only thing you need to ensure against is the 'unfamiliar' climate and the rarefied atmosphere. Carry lots of warm clothes and do not try to run down to the next bit of natural beauty even though the temptation will no doubt be great. And yes, carry a few extra memory cards for the camera.

The main cost in Sikkim trip is that of the vehicle travelling. The taxi which comes at 1500 for NJP to Gangtok go to about 3300 in season. Book through north sikkim tours through good travel company or agent. As land slides are common start early on return journey so as not to miss your flight or train. Keep a day of two spare so that any delay due to landslide or delay in permission can be adjusted. The trains can be late (our train was 6 hrs late) so dont plan anything the day you arrive except for MG road.
