Its well connected to Jammu by regular buses/jeeps, which is itself well connected by air/rail/road. There are helicopter services from jammu to vaishnodevi as well, so the senior citizens can comfortably do their pilgrimages. It gets pretty cold in winters, so keep that in mind.

The best way to reach katra from anywhere is to get to Delhi and from delhi to Jammu. from Jammu there are taxis and buses plying to katra. Buses take 3 to 4 hours and taxis take 2 to 3 hours to reach katra. from katra vaishno devi darshan can be had by trekking up 14 km or by using dholi or pony. though when we went, due to bad weather the helicopter was not operating, this is the best option to avoid body ache and to save time. helicopter flies from katra to the bhawan and bookings for this can be done and this facility may be utilised. Regarding travel warnings, only fear is landslide during bad weather .
