The transportation facility is very good to Dharmastala, the KSRTC ply buses all day long from various destination in the state. The Road are very good if we opt for own driving through Hassan, Sakaleshpura

If you are traveling from hassan, then don't forget to enjoy the nature, if you want to go some other place, then take a route to charmudi or kemmannugundi, they are the most awesome routes where you can enjoy the nature and best place for photographs.

Try Darshan at Dharmasthala as early as possible in the morning. Avoid Mondays, they are very very busy. Do not try hotels they are not of high standard. Temple food is traditional and good. Weekend trip to Dharmastala and Kukke

I'd suggest to visit these places during off reason (preferably Feb) so that students & parents are busy with exam preparations. :-) No prior reservation allowed in Dharmastala temple choultries. Kukke is usually humid and sometimes tough to find hotels. My blog has some details about this. Its better to take a A/C room.
