The drive from Gurgaon to Jaipur is along NH-8, part of the Golden Quadrilateral. What should be a zippy drive in any other country turns into a tortuous ordeal because of the terribly broken roads (we drove during monsoons) and the crazy traffic.

There are numerous restaurants and petrol bunks along the way so you can take as many stops as you like. Two nice detours on the way are Pataudi Palace (about 40 mins travel time from the Gurgaon Toll Plaza) and Neemrana Fort Palace
both will fall to your right when driving from Gurgaon to Jaipur.

The last 50 kms of the drive when you reach the outskirts of Jaipur is breathtaking, with lush greenery set against the backdrop of Aravalli. There are lots of resorts in this area and one worth checking out is the Tree House Resort.

We visited Jaipur over the Independence Day long weekend and shortlisted the ITC Rajputana for two reasons - I'm a huge fan of ITC restaurants and hotel service (having previously stayed at ITC Sonar Bangla and visited ITC Maurya in Delhi) and secondly they were offering a fantastic package...more »

The Delhi Jaipur highway used to be one of the best highways in India when it was first made. Now it must be among the worst.

We were travelling by our own car (Honda city) and the ride overall was smooth; just the construction near Manesar and at some points of the highway was bad. Luckily we did not find too much traffic and took only 6 hours to reach Jaipur.

There are a number of petrol pumps and eating joints on the way so you can pretty much stop wherever and whenever you like.

On the way back we tried to stop at Sagar Ratna - it was packed, awful and dirty. I would recommend you to skip.

Mode of Transport:Train
I have never travelled in a double decker train or bus so it was totally a new experience for me. Ticket were quite cheaper and train was on time. Journey was hassle free. As I hardly plan to go out so travelling in train was a big job for me but then the experience I had in this train was quite amazing.

It was a very tiring experience. Avoid travelling to Jaipur by car. Amber Fort is must visit on the way. Try starting early in the morning from Delhi/Gurgaon to avoid traffic on tolls.

Jaipur is a must visit place in India. Itís around 250 km from Delhi by road. I visited Jaipur with my wife, daughter and friends Yash, Divya, Peehu, Sudhir and Anu. We were planning to go by train, but we were not able to book tatkal tickets (notorious IRCTC).

Then there was no option other then car, so we booked a taxi and started at around 8:00 am. It took around five hours to reach the destination. We enjoyed breakfast in dhabas and on the way we had delicious Lunch. Route was not scenic but roads were in poor condition, traffic was high and we were thinking to stay in-between rather to go ahead. But, we were able to reach the destination. We took some rest at our hotel. We explored many hotels and all were good. Overall it was a very nice trip.
