A crowded but still a popular hill Station

Post by Prakash | Jaipur | Mar 13, 2013

We drove from Jaipur. The route was Jaipur-Delhi-Chandigarh-Ropar-Kiratpursaheb-Bilaspur-Sundarnagar-Mandi-Kullu-Manali. For driving, follow proper mountain driving rules. Roads are good at most of the places. It is better to have rest at Chandigarh or Ropar, before driving uphill towards Manali, as it takes almost 8-9 hours from Ropar - Manali.

Manali -- Peace, Tranquility & Snow In Abundance

Post by Samudra | Lucknow | Jun 8, 2006

Manali is almost 575 km from Delhi and takes anything from 14-16 hours non-stop drive. With children or senior citizens plan to stopover midway for the night at Swarghat or Bilaspur [HPTDC Hotels avl] with advance booking. For Rohtang, start early at 0500hrs. to beat the crowd and watch the first golden rays of the sun kiss the mountain peaks. Negotiate hard with the woollen dress shops, sledge and ski rides at Rohtang and the horse rides at Solang Valley. Don't forget to taste the Yak Cheese [Rs.700/kg] at the German Bakery on the Mall.

Manali- Abode of Gods

Post by Aseem | Kolhapur | May 20, 2006

Though flights are available to Bhuntar a place about 50 Kms form Manali, it is accessible by road from Chandigarh or Pathankot. I recommend Pathankot to Manali via Palampur, Baijnath, Jogindernagar, Mandi and Kullu. If you have time you can take a toy train journey from Pathankot to Jogindernagar. It is about 8 hours of relaxed driving through tea gardens, tall pine trees, plenty of small streams till you hit Mandi. From Mandi till Manali you have River Beas roaring in breathtaking rapids along the roadside. Winding road through pines, orchards of apples and exuberance of wild flowers make you feel as if the drive should continue.

Unforgettable memories

Post by Serena | Mumbai | Jun 21, 2012

Manali is best reached by bus from Delhi. An overnight journey is most advisable so that you can make the most of the next day. We wanted to avoid the summer rush and hence opted for a winter holiday when the place is not so crowded. Summer (April-May) is peak season and everything is at its peak - the prices, the crowds etc. the main attraction Rohtang Pass is usually closed in winters other than that you can enjoy everything else at leisure during the december-January months, only remember to carry lots of warm clothes.
