Truly 'Heaven-on-Earth'!!

Post by Kanupriya | Mumbai | Aug 6, 2008

The best mode to travel is to take a flight from Delhi to Srinagar. And from Srinagar, you can hire a car for further travel. We first went to Jammu from Delhi to visit the Vaishno Devi Temple and from Jammu, we went by car to Srinagar. Believe me, the journey was really painful. A person with motion sickness just cant go through it. It took around 10 hours in the hills. So, it is preferable to go by flight. Hotels are available suiting all budgets. You can stay at any one near the Dal Lake in Srinagar. Houseboats are also available in Dal lake but, they are quite smelly. In Pehalgam though, finding a hotel is difficult. Mostly small lodges are only there. Kashmir has become very safe for tourists. So, there isnt anything to worry about. Hope you enjoy your trip!!

Heaven on Earth

Post by Mehul | Mumbai | Nov 16, 2011

It is important to check if at all there are any tensions in valley, if not even after traveling to Kashmir you should avoid going to terror prone area & strictly follow advice of your guide. For reaching to Kashmir from Mumbai you can book train tickets in Jammu Tawi which is direct train to Jammu & from there on its 8-9 hours road journey which is very scenic but equally tiring due to winding roads. To avoid journey at a stretch you can take night halt at Patnitop which is very pleasant place & you will start getting a feel of kashmir.Avoid traveling during night. In case of flight you can travel from Mumbai to Srinagar which will be less painful & tickets are around 6-7,000 in case you book them in advance.

Paradise Personified

Flying is the best option if you book tickets before they touch skies. Train is also a good option if you can bear a day and night journey before you reach there. To go to gulmerg, sonmarg and pahelgoan hire a cab to and fro. It is ideal to reach there by 10am to enjoy the engagements there. The Gondola ride closes at 4pm so it is advisable to leave early for your destinations. To see the local spots in Srinagar, hire an auto, it can take you anywhere and everywhere you want it to.
