The distance between Patni Top and Jammu is just 105 km, but it takes more than three hours by car and above five hours by bus, to reach Patni Top from Jammu, because of the hilly terrain. Though buses are cheaper, it can cause nausea to many people who are not used to travelling in the hills. Hiring a cab costs around Rs. 4000 for both ways, which is the best possible way to reach Patni Top, as one can go at their own pace,as well as stop anywhere and enjoy the scenic beauty.

It was a very awesome experience. We hired a taxi. We start our journey in the morning and I think it was the best time. We saw many sights through car. It was very comfortable we didn't feel tired. We shared very nice moments. But their was no any dhaba or restaurants so if we travel next time we would carry our own food.
The best time to travel is by early morning. The taxi fare was reasonable and affordable. There are many good dhabas with local delicacies. One can buy patissaa from Kud which is not available in other places. If you are travelling in winter one must carry warm clothes. If one feels nauseas on hilly terrain must have avomin tablets. During summer one can buy fresh fruits like apple, pears which are very cheap.
The road was totally zig zag from Udhampur to Patnitop. Between Jammu and Udhampur the road is quite good but after Udhampur there are many landslides. I suggest going via train till Udhampur and then taking a taxi from there as it will be cheap. The condition of road is quite good up to NH-1A and then after a turn towards Patnitop the road is single.
We started our journey from Patnitop resort at 8. 30 in morning to take our flight at Jammu airport and it took around 3 and half hours to reach Jammu airport. It's a single road from Patnitop to Udhampur and from Udhampur onwards, it is a very good highway double lane. Overall, a nice journey.
