The best option is to drive down. Ideally leave early morning (6 am) to beat the traffic. It will take 8 hours approx. to reach with a breakfast halt. Take Sion-Panvel road. Move on the old Bombay-Pune Highway. After Panvel turn off to Mumbai-Goa highway (NH-17). After that pass Karnala, Pen, Kolad, Mahad. Have breakfast at Vithal Kamat at Mahad. Toilets here are really clean. Then drive on to the Kashedi Ghat. Watch out for the hair pin bend just as you start descending from the top. Drive past Khed, Chiplun & Sangmeshar. Climb up Nivli Ghat and leave the Mumbai-Goa highway here by taking a right turn for Ganaptipule.

We took an overnight train from CST (VT) Konkan Kanya Express which leaves at 11.00 pm and reaches ratnagiri at 6.35 pm. The timing of the train is conviniet since u reach ganpatipule before 9.oo am which would be ur check in time.From ratnagiri station u cand catch a ST BUS for ganapatipule or ask a couple of autos. they charge around RS 350 for one way trip, but it is worth it. While returning we booked ourselves on the Mandovi express which comes from Goa and reaches ratnagiri at 2.35 pm and reaches Mumbai at 9.00 pm. Trains r usually late though since the konkan railway runs only on a single track.

Reaching Ganapatipule - The drive from Mumbai to Ganapatipule takes at least 8 – 9 hours covering a distance of 375 kms. It is well connected to Mumbai with Ratnagiri being the station closest to Ganapatipule. Temperature- The day temperatures in the area range between mid 20 to 30 degree Celsius and is ideal to enjoy a dip in the waters. Nights though are cool and breezy. I must warn that the beach waters are highly salty and can easily lead to sun burn and skin pigmentation. I soon realised that the romance of the beach setting fades when you swim in its water.
