Amritsar has plenty of hotels and to suit all types of pockets. Local transport again is varied - shared autorickshaws, taxis and the man-pulled cycle rickshaws you can get around the city hassle free but watch the prices quoted by the taxi guys. Its well connected from Delhi and has numerous trains heading out everyday and flights too. Do check on the weather before leaving as it does experience extreme weather conditions. Fairly safe, but you may want to keep a watch on your purse while in crowded markets.

Amritsar - An amalgam of Serenity, and Partriotism

Post by HimanshuG | Delhi | May 30, 2006

It is connected by regular and numerous trains from Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Pathankot, Jammu, Kolkatta and other parts of the country as well. Shatabadi trains and Shan-e-Punjab are the best trains from Delhi. Summers are very hot while winters biting cold, so light cottons in summers and heavy woollens in winter. Innumerable places to stay incl. Golden Temple. While shopping, bargaining is a must :). Transport costs (of taxis etc.) are almost uniform, though bargaining may help to save a few rupees each time :). Regular free shuttle buses from Rly Station to Golden Temple ply for the devotees.
