Kumarakom is located at a distance of about 56 km from Kochi (Cochin). The town, famous for its Vembanad Lake and backwaters, is well-connected to Kochi by roadways and railways. However, the best way to reach Kumarakom from Kochi is by car, a journey of about an hour. The places covered on the way are Kochi - 4km -> Palluruthy - 9km -> Chandiroor - 7km -> Chammanadu - 6km -> Thuravoor - 6km -> Pattanakkad - 24km -> Thanneermukkom - 17km -> Kumarakom. Several Bharat Petroleum petrol pumps and gas filling stations along with Narasimha fuels filling station are located en route. Besides, there are dhabas, local food joints, restaurants and snack-corners situated on the way.

How to reach: By train: From most big cities trains heading to Kerala stop at Kottayam. From there to Kumarakom is a half an hour’s bus ride. By flight: The nearest airport is in Cochin, about 2 hours away by road. Carry insect repellants (like mats, coils and creams). Most of the insects surface during the evenings only. Though Monsoons are being marketed this year by Kerala tourism, during this time the roads between Cochin and Kumarakom and Kottayam and Kumarakom get flooded after 3-4 days of continuous rain. Only buses and big cars can pass through very slowly.
